I know it is just a troll, but in the interests of accuracy...

The Americans were very helpful during the ice storm a couple years ago. They brought in a lot of important equipment including generators.

Remember when Toronto got hit by that big snow storm? The army was brought in, but due to the pathetic state of our military they were largely transported there by the Americans.

Just two instances that I can recall where the US helped us out recently.

Anyone heard of the joint operations agreement just signed. I think it was just signed, maybe it was just being discussed. At any rate...

Now the Armies and Navies will cooperate for Continental 'issues' in a similar way the Air Forces do. Or, it's being discussed that they will. It would mean American soldiers coming to Canada for disaster relief, and Canadians going there for the same.

I suppose the real reason for it would be so the USN and US Army can act against potential security threats without a lot of diplomatic wrangling first.

Just had to respond to this amusing thread.

Why is it that Americans like to compare military strength? What is this supposed to communicate? That your country is a bully with too many toys? That your fragile sense of identity depends on feeling superior to other nations? Or that American dignity means being able to say, "Yeah, well mine is bigger!"

I get the sense that Americans are bitter about Canada's reputation and standing in the world community. We offer what relatively little military strength we have to those in need. We aren't the ones selling the armaments which escalate and cause many of the world's incidents. And we support and encourage cultural diversity at home and abroad. Many Americans could learn from figuring out why everyone loves Canadians.

I wonder why it is never mentioned in American schools that Canadians burned down the White House in 1812 - maybe its related to that fragile identity I mentioned earlier.

I only registered to post this and likely won't reply further. Have fun insulting myself and my fellow Canadians to make yourselves feel better.

It would be a lot easier today than it was 190 years ago. Our other claim to glory is when we repelled an American invasion, which would also be a lot easier today since we'd have the rest of the world on our side.

dejon, I was responding to the satire about, /"Warship? Canada has a warship?" And it actually works both ways. I see a lot of people on Poly (marcus) who complain about the extent of the US arsenal as if it pains them (since they are wargamers and armchair strategists...and they are into such toys...but know that their countries choose not to spend money on them...)

Canadians measure their alcohol content by volume, and Americans measure by weight. The numbers for Canadian beer are higher than for American beer, but if you equalise them Canadian beer hasn't got much more alcohol in it than American beer.

I read that on the Internet, so it must be true.

Our two nations are too intertwined. You guys rely on the fact that should someone, other then the US, give you problems, you call on your southern neighbor. If we give it to you, you remind us how much we are into each other. If a foreign army came rolling in on you, your goverment would be calling the White House, reminding them of the agreements we have to support you and back you up, and referring to Red Scare Project Names...

We have been good buds, since you guys managed to kick us back and not take you over, way on back in our mutual history.

Humm... you called on us plenty during the Cold War. Just wait for it all to be declassified. If you manage to live that long as a roomate with Lurker.
Who's going to fuck with us, Darkstar?

We've got 5000 miles of water between us and the nearest bad guys.

Might as well ask how Sweden or some such country can get by without the biggest badass on the block watching their back. And they're a hell of a lot closer to the action than we are.

Wake up, Darkstar: we don't rely on you for our everyday existence. And if you want my opinion, you needed our airspace during the cold war a hell of a lot more than we needed your jets patrolling it.

The specific density of alcohol is ~90% of that of water IIRC. So it won't make too much of a difference...

I have to admit that Molson Ex (my standard drink) is only 5% alc per vol. Which makes it a pretty light beer by Canadian standards. But on the high side for American beers.

BTW, American beers brewed here (Coors, for instance) have their alc content bumped up to Canadian norms.

I think Can beer is like 5% by wt and American is 4.2 nominally%. (going by the major brands). It's not the extreme difference that SPaniel thinks.

The link I gave showed a fair amount of variation in measured alcohol percent (with chromotography).

I don't go for those kind of guys in reality.

I hate the gym look. I also hate women with breast implants.

I prefer the girl/boy-next-door look more than anything else. And they also have to be around my age.

So that leaves everyone out on this site I think.
