I called her a minute ago. I asked whether she'd like to meet to talk, and we agreed on next Thursday. It's a bit far off, but she said she's really busy with schoolwork and next week she'll be in Antwerp next week anyway. (for school)

I don't believe this, but I still have a backup CD with the ACOL photo album from July, 2001 on it.

Woman time is "Turn up late just in case he is late so that I don't have to wait on my own."

We turn up early.

Women know how to tell time? When did this event occur, it should have been banner headlines in the papers.

Women learn how to tell time, husbands cheer!

the whole point of the thread wasnt that women can tell time, its 'why do men tend to choose not to keep up with the time or to not be on time?'

well a particuar person, no names mentioned, had been chatting with me and went to dinner, saying they'd be back in a couple hours... well he came back oh about 4 hrs later. That started it. Then a guy i know went somewhere to visit a relative for a couple days.. and *Poof* couple must mean 5 now. Then a sales rep from work was scheduled to arrive at 2pm one day. He managed to get there the next morning without even noticing that he had missed the preset time. Then my Dad the day before the thread was making lunch and was going to bring me a plate to work at noon.... he called at 1 to say he'd be there in an hour!

so it just got me thinking as to why MEN cant seem to keep time

i really dont have alot of hostility about it... well not at the moment anyway, i just know that i'm not that insensitive

I have this problem too with a couple of friends. One, a guy, at least tries to be on time, but he tends to be late because he was held due one or another thing. Another, a girl, doesn't start preparing herself to leave until the time she was supposed to show up at the appointment. But at least she calls ASAP to say she'll be late. And yet another girl completely ignores whatever agreed time, and calls an hour or two after she was supposed to arrive to say she'll be there within a couple of hours.

Needless to say I don't even bother anymore to make any appointments with the last one. With the other 2 I just don't rush myself to be on time either.

But I think these cases differ somewhat from your examples, because they don't meet a defined time, while "a couple" is vague. People say "a couple" because they want to give themselves some leeway and I think you should just live with that. If you don't like it, just demand a specific time and you'll at least have the excuse to scold them.

Besides, I think 4 hours or 5 days is pretty acceptable for "a couple", and 2PM is still noon to me, but you seem to have much narrower definitions.

Ehm no, it's in the dictionary, a couple means an indefinite small number. The indefinite is exactly why people say "a couple".
