Colon, sounds like she just didn't want to go out and get free drinks. Ask her out again. Worst that could happen is she thinks you are a drunk horndog.

Jon, cannot tell from that message. Could be blowing you off, but still trying to keep you around as a backup option, or she just could have been busy. Try again if you like her.

There is no standard way to interpret women. Apart from the extremes ("I'd love to go out with you, but I have to paint my toenails for the next six weeks") it can mean anything.

GP:

"...just be completely direct: "Would you like to go out for a dinner date, this Friday.""

Hmmm.... I don't think there's a proper translation for "dinner date". Us poor folks just have to settle for dinner and see what happens....

Colon:

If she confuses you, hit back. Treat her like a male friend (unless you're Glonkie).

No, that's certainly not something I'm going to do. We've already had periods of strikes and counterstrikes and we've confused each other enough. I don't feel like starting it all over again.

At Uni, I was living with this girl. I told her I was going out to the pub and didn't come back for over a week. She was not happy.

Colon, just be honest with her, if you like her just come on out and say so, be as honest and forth comming as you can be and see what happens. You never know, she may be waiting on you to make a move? on the other hand, if she's not interested, then you havnt waisted so much time trying to figure it out and you can just move on the the next one!

Sorry about using financial lingo, but it's sometimes a bit hard to communicate with George in normal words.

It was sort of another way of saying she really isn't just a regular girl to me.

I think I'll try to have that talk you folks are advising me because I'm having sleepness nights about our past. I really can't have being bugged about this too long.

Ok. But I wouldn't make it a big production. Just tell her you like her and want to go out on a date. Like in a sentence or two. You can go into details about it, if she says, "yes". If not, no point in a long discussion on a dead issue.

I think this approach much more likely to win her interest than if you get into a long conversation when she hasn't made any kind of response to your efforts to woo her.

Just my view of market psychology.

I don't know, I'd prefer to tell what I feel first, then ask what she feels, and then proceed on what she says.

Which board?

I figured you thought that. I think that this is a conversation better done over a meal. If she won't go for that small arrangement, what's the point of going any further in explanation?

Maybe tell her you have some things that you want to talk to her about and propose a meeting to discuss them:

1. This kind of conversation needs to be done in person.
2. If you give her a little bit of mystery, it will make her more likely to agree to a meeting.
3. You will go further with her if you can get her to make some steps forward herself as you go along.

(If this doesn't work, you could always go for the ploy gf trick.)

I was pretty much thinking along those lines, although the first hurdle is the hardest. You think it's ok to just ask whether she'd like to have a lunch without giving an reason? She needs to travel about half an hour to an hour by public transit to get in Antwerp so not giving any might not be a good thing to do.

Yeah, I would just ask her out for lunch. If she says no, tell her you have some things to talk about that are better done in person. If she still says no, ABORT.

Do a little work and come up with a closer meeting spot. Why does she have to come to you?

I know, but the place she lives in doesn't really have many decent meeting points and there's little in between either. (I could give a crash-course in the geography of the region, but you'll just have to take my word on it)
Besides, she likes being in Antwerp and there are plenty of cosy bars and restaurants over here.

On geography. Ok. As long as you can make that attractive to her. Still might be good if you could be a little creative and think of something closer...so you come to her. Important psychology.

Oh chill...they aren't that obviously branching. Not like the old addicted boards. More like a Yahoo board. And really cool articles. Here is my favorite:

OTOH, she's used to people from Antwerp to stay put (don't you love that big city mentality) so proposing to come over there might make her a little suspicious.

(ok, talking crap there, I'll just ask what she likes, I'm not good at the man-in-charge stuff anyway)

I think it is better form to make a specific proposal. You don't need to be overbearing. You should be confident and proactive.

Anyway, the article was entertaining, but hardly more. We knew corporate bullsitese sucks and that the fast boys will find their way around any regulations already. I felt his latest article, where he comments on Harvey Pitt's recent speech, a lot more interesting.
