You probably didn't use clean enough water. Vacuum it again and this time use proper distilled water.

A nice, funny article. Still, when a young Whistler does that, and ruins his computer, I can see Gamespy spending more in legal fees to defend themselves then just buying him a new machine. Nowhere in there does it actually tell you that doing any of that is liable to destroy your machine or ability to MP online. Just that nice people don't cheat.

Back at school. myself and some mates knew a guy that really fancied himself as a free kick taker in football (soccer for the Yanks). Anyway, we convinced him that his chances would be better if the air conditions were better - it explained the Latin American surperiority. However, we couldn't do that much at school not having weather control as [art of the comprehensive education system. It was. though. all to do with relativities - not absolutes.

We proposed an alternative. We squirted lighter fuel all over his football and set light to it which would allow it to take advantage of the lighter air inside versus the colder air outside.

Didn't work. But it was fun seeing his ball go up in flames before the plastic covering melted.

Thus is the cheaters' code.

That should be covered by common sense.

Shining1, thank you.

All I'm saying, is that in the USofA, there is NO such thing as 'Common Sense'. Since the article does not actually warn people NOT to do that (counting on common sense and SOME form of knowledge about computers/electronics/mechanical know how), they are wide open to law suits. Think about the 11 and 12 year olds out there, trying to follow that advice because they do not realize that it is a humor article. Think about Daddy all pissed off about it, and finding out that the site RECOMMENDED it. Slam dunk law suit for Daddy and his boy. All because they NEVER say 'this is a humor article, and following any of these suggestions may or will result in damage to your computer or phone line.'

That's all I'm saying... they need to actually cover their ass.

Disclaimer: Don't do any of this to your computer if you want to enjoy nice normal non-cheating online games. Take this advice at your own discretion -- GameSpy is not responsible for you, us, me, or anything. Thanks!
You're not even right about that bit...

Shining1, that won't cover them. Read it literally. It is in no way a warning that damage may result. The only thing it warns of is 'Don't do this if you want to enjoy non-cheating play'.

It would be like putting a label on a chainsaw blade 'It's not a good idea to stop blade with hand.' It is just NOT plain enough. And a humorous 'We are not responsible for anything.' would not stand up in civil court. Its a joke disclaimer. Those have been found 'non-binding' because they were intended as a joke.

It's a sad state of affairs if someone stupid enough to do that could sue them and win.

I think I could find a reason to sue almost everyone on this forum for some reason or other.

We need to differentiate:

US court: Big evil company! You pay 1 million $ in punitive damages to the poor guy who ruined his ccomputer due to your advice. And another 10 million $ for mental cruelty.

Any other court: Bruauahahawaah! Oh hell, what a jerk, Ouch.... thanks for making my day. Gotta tell the colleagues now...hahaaa....

Roland, I do believe I said USofA court.

MikeH, I agree.

Somewhere in the 20th Century, the US court system lost its 'common sense'. It's unfortunate, but true.

That's what I can't understand, why don't the American public demand courts reform?

Yeah but the companies make all the money back by charging the customers more so in the end whilst some individuals win, almost everyone else loses.

Except that they haven't been sued over anyone doing anything like that.

Happily, it would seem that the internet has a built in basic stupidity limit. It's called AOL.
