You should have said Ramblers (like an AMC Rambler) instead of Rambles.

The Gash was (will be?) an infamous prison hulk in orbit around Pixie in the Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches Sector, Third Imperium.

Is this a SciFi reference? I'm not familiar with it.

Traveller is a science fiction RPG from the 1970s with an amazingly well developed milieu.

The original box set grabbed my attention, simple black, red, and white color scheme (much like the book in the PDF above, with one line:

"This is Free Trader Beowulf, calling anyone...Mayday, Mayday...we are under attack...main drive is gone...turret number one not responding...Mayday...losing cabin pressure fast...calling anyone...please help...This is Free Trader Beowulf...Mayday...."

EDIT: the image!

Wow! Completely missed it. My excuse is that I was in graduate school at the time.

I remember it as one of the more seriously considered RPGs of the time, with Runequest for the fantasy side of things...

I was in boy scouts, and the older scouts wouldn't let us kids play.

I had MegaTraveller or something, which wasn't terrible, at least it was scifi. (was probably terrible in comparison)

No. Megatraveller had improvements in the mechanics, and added a lot more detail, which was nice. The whole civil war thing was too much of a shakeup, IMO, but they didn't actually jump the shark until after GURPS took over.

A group of us were doing a sort of quarterly D&D get together thing, but that's become beer and curry and boardgames instead.

I know plenty of people who still do here in Cardiff, but I'm too lazy to join in.

There's a massive wargaming community here too, mainly Warhammer. Which, incidentally, Games Workshop appear to have changed their shop chain name to. Not sure how I feel about that, as I have fond memories of visiting the original shop in Ravenscourt Park and everything else that means...

I think I feel sad about that.
