Dragon Age 3

Just started, not sure if I actually like it yet.

The completionist in me is going to stroke out. So many quests. Quests that give power, power to unlock more quest areas on the war table...

I liked the first game. You always could choose what to do next, but you also KNEW what to do next.

I think it was on Amazon for $45 US, $60 is a little steep (for someone that doesn't live in Australia)

There are lots of fiddly little things that you don't have to do, but I must do. Collect magic shards, claim landmarks, find magic astrariums (connect the dots with one line minigame!?), rare bottles of wine/spirits, etc. I could complain about there being too much to do, but I may as well complain about my own lack of self-control.

I've barely started on the story because I'm too easily sucked in to these things. Consequently I'm overleveled for the main quest stuff now.

Crafting is fun, but poorly implemented because you don't have access to what your party members are wearing when at the crafting tables. Just what you have on, and anything you hopefully remembered to unequip from them before returning to base. Schtupid. Respawning crafting and alchemy resources make it a little easy, but since all the gear has level requirements... I guess it's ok? I'm overleveled anyway, so better gear at this point is unnecessary.

Best advice is not to get too sidetracked and work on the main quest a bit. Combat will probably be more fun, and the loot more useful.

Right now my party members do their own AI thing and I blast away with a staff and things die. Sometimes I cast spells because I like the explosions. The party AI is modifiable, but I haven't seen the need yet (it is early, I imagine the special bad guys that need a plan show up later).

Skills consist of both active and passives, and there are 4 trees for each class. I stop and think before I spend skill points...and plan ahead, so that's good.

My party members, so far, have not been tearing off their clothes and throwing themselves at me the first time I say something nice. In fact, they have done no such thing at all, at any time (although I'm sure it's eventually possible). This is an improvement. If I say something nice to the crazy archer just to try to get her to open up so I can see what her damage is, and she slathers me with honey and comes at me with a jar of bees, I'm uninstalling. She seems to like bees, so this is not as impossible as it sounds.

The story is barely started for me, so I won't even say if I like it yet.

Yesterday I saw a giant and a dragon. They are so large they have separate health bars for different parts of their bodies. Interesting possibilities... does crushing a dragon's wing prevent it from retreating? Can it still do that annoying reverse wing buffet thing where it sucks everyone into knife/tooth range?

I killed the giant (it was busy trying to avoid being eaten by the dragon), and the dragon flew away. Killing one of the giant's legs brought it to it's knees, which was cool, although I don't know what effect that had overall. It went down completely only a few seconds later.

Last night I realized all the flirty choices put a little heart icon in the center of the conversation wheel, so that stuff could be avoided completely.

Did some main quest stuff last night and had my mind blown. Also, there was a group hymn that was more awesome than corny. I guess it was a little corny, because I did laugh. Still, mind blown.

I think it's nearly as good as the first game so far. Although I still have no grasp of how easy or difficult combat is if you're appropriately leveled. I was rescuing some villagers from fire and raiders and did fail to save a couple, but that had more to do with speed and paying attention than combat ability.

From what I've seen, I don't like the fact your ae has it's own voice. Can you disable it?

At least they fixed the accent of the Elves. In first game, they had a horrible American accent...

I think you get your choice of two voices. One male voice wasn't particularly good, the other was horrible.

That's a big minus. I hate bad voices, and in first game they had good ones and no for your character so you didn't need to be ashamed of him

I prefer female char in fantasy games too, especially when playing online. People are 0.1% more friendly when you are playing a female char. Never mention you are a fat, old german in real life!

There are no other humans in Dragon Age. Playing with other real people would be annoying. People suck.

I still haven't nailed down the exact number of people it takes before the group starts to suck. How many people post here?

It's human-level quorum sensing. Too many people get together and the higher organism overrides the conscious mind. Then they pick teams and either kill each other over resources or they make some shit up and kill for that. Population controlled!

In other news, I still think the game is not as good as the first but miles better than the second. I'm either too easily sidetracked or I actually like it more than I think and am milking every side quest to prolong the experience.

Ugh. It seems they can't even write a game that installs off the disks... without you having to hack around with stuff.

I'm in the position of these people.

If anyone else has this, this seems to have worked, from that thread.

Quote:
Just got help from and ea tech and this helped me for now, my game is copying from the disks as Im typing:

Ensure Origin is fully closed by clicking the Origin Menu and selecting Exit.
Delete the following folders:
Origin folder - Found in C:\ProgramData\
Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\
Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\
Note: These folders are hidden by default, and you will need to un-hide ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/w...iles=windows-7) to be able to locate them.

Then pop the disk back in and hit continue and log back into origin

Hope this helps!

Really enjoying the game so far. I've taken ages to get up to the first village just wandering around meeting people.

Sounds like I need to play it to complete the trilogy, though it sounds slightly disappointing, but better than DA 2. I'll buy it when it's less than $20. That's my new threshold for EA games. Just because they're assholes.

Haven't had much more time to play, done about 6 hours I think? Still exploring most of the first area. Far more sub quests it feels like.
