I'll say this, I'm excited about the future though. I think we can expect the same in 2018, but I think in 2022, assuming FIFA hasn't sold the trophy to space aliens, we can realistically have expectations to make the quarter or semi-finals.

If you count 1994 at the birth of modern soccer in the US, this year's team is middle/end of the second generation of our players (guys like Harkes, Wynalda, Reyna being the first). The kids coming up now, still 14, 15, or 16, will be 3rd generation since soccer became a "thing" in the US. I think that group will have greatly improved over what we've seen so far and maybe be ready to do big things by 2022.

I don't see that happening with Blatter in charge and he still has huge support from asian and african confederations.

England was the best bid for 2018 according to the FIFA assessments, but I'm sure there was no bribery from Russia.

I need to tweet more! I'm still new to it, but internet fame has never been closer thanks to my new tweeter thinger.

I did make a Bradley joke that the official US national team twitter account didn't rise to, sadly. They posted a picture of the team having a last lunch in Brazil to which I tweeted:

@ussoccer and Bradley gave his lunch away to the waiter. Joking aside, great run by the #USMNT Hard working, dedicated from beginning to end

And this is his one about Belgium

American English phraseology about soccer just sounds wrong.

A lot of it sounds wrong to me as well. I think it's people that haven't played/aren't familiar with the game. Still happens on sports center all the time. Even if they say the right words, the way they say it is all wrong.

when Bob Ley first started reporting on soccer, his phrases would drive me nuts. He's better now, but still a tard.

And as for tactics, I'll say this last thing. I think his biggest flaw was that he couldn't ADAPT his tactics during the game and change the flow of the game. Perhaps that's due to personnel, I don't know. But he doesn't seem to like/want to change mid-game. When Belgium pushed high up the field to disrupt possession by the US back 4 he didn't do anything to try and adapt to that.

Having to use an early sub 'cause of injury does always limit your tactical options later on. When he needed to change it when you were behind, he did, and it was effective.

Funny thing is: I understand Klinsmann pretty well when he's speaking english. It's very hard to listen to him when he tries to speak german.

The usual slackers were in the lunchroom at work watching the latest game instead of working. Last time I walked in during a match one of them weakly said, "Go Costa Rica" or maybe it was "Go Guatemala", but I know he would be hard pressed to find either place on the map. Another slacker had a Sweden jersey on. Sorry buddy, I do not think that will work out so well this year.

This time there was nothing. No chatter, no encouragement for either team, just a pile of slackers looking dumbstruck. Then I checked the score - Germany 5, Brazil 0 at that point.

I guess the pressure is on when you are the host team in a soccer mad country.

Wow...

I mean Neymar and Silva were out, but thought the match would still be pretty Klose - I could never have imagined Brazil getting Mullered like that!

Germany were in total Kroos control during that crazy first half - but then even at 5-0 I thought, Schurrle there can't be any more goals!?

Like Lahms to the slaughter.
