Wasteland... 2

Interesting idea, paying for the development up front... perhaps risky?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2

but looking at it, they've already exceeded their minimum 900k in pledges, and are just short of 1.5 million dollars raised... awesome job

and it's out!

Steam says I played 13 hours of early access, or beta, or whatever. Feels very much like an old school CRPG. Now to see if it's stable and contains a non-beta number/severity of bugs.

Cool, I love it when a kickstarter works!

I would like one of those. The tractor seat is my favorite part.

It does seem very similar to the original Fallout, me likes the first impression.

I'm up to 71 hours now, so I guess I like it. A few bugs now and then, like a missing microscope that I'm sure I talked someone into giving up for a side quest... but it's not in my inventory. Nothing gamebreaking.

Unlike regular slug throwers, energy weapons do massive damage to heavily armored targets but punch tiny little cauterized holes in lightly armored ones, which makes choosing weapon skills more complex. Sniper rifles have a dead zone up close where they're horribly inaccurate. SMGs and pistols are severely limited in range. Melee is actually useful, although that's mostly because the enemy has thugs of their own that will run into the midst of your party and disrupt their aim.

Noticed some bugs too, I mean a stupid toad that repeatedly slaughters my entire party is a bug right? Right?

I spent a lot of time leveling toaster repair to max on one of my recruitable NPCs (yes, for real), and although he survived an ambush, I failed to notice he was bleeding out. I think it took all of 20 seconds of my inattention to finish him.

I think I prefer the usual 'firing ends your turn' a la Xcom than this system. To be completely free on how to use your action points allows you to get out of cover, fire, get back into cover in a single turn which seems rather cheap.

Also melee is way too strong imo, I know it's for balance and to keep all options viable but when punching someone does more damage than firing a shotgun at point blank range it feels quite odd.

All in all is pretty addictive tho and I will start suffering from sleep deprivation soon

Giant toads and honey badgers have joined forces against me. If it weren't for the minefield I (accidentally) led them through I'd be dead. Damn toads and their weapon eating ways. They're nearly as aggravating as D&D rust monsters, except you get the weapon back if you survived.
