The Black Swan

Very dark sort of movie. But I have come to the conclusion that balet is for loonies after watching the movie, so not all is lost.

8/10

It was interesting but I thought something was missing.
Way too blunt maybe? A bit over the top melodramatic for a theme that has been re-played to death?
Still worth watching.

Through most of it I disliked the cheesy, over-blunt symbolism, but once I started appreciating it as a melodrama it was quite good. Just a big ballet, right?

It was alright. Mild psychodrama for teenagers. I expected a bit more from Aronofsky really. It reminded me a bit of The Crow.

I keep feeling I'm going to miss out if I don't see this - but it just doesn't grab me as a film to go and see...

Do you like well-crafted, deep, well-acted drama? Good, realistic, well-written dialogue?

That's not what you get here. This is an orgy of stilted clichés, horrendous overacting, the most blunt metaphors ever, and nasty faux psychology. But all in a good way! It's exactly like Opera or Ballet, which is I think the point. I liked it.

I think I saw someone on twitter describe it as a Showgirls reboot.

More or less, if you replace Elisabeth Berkeley with Edward Norton from Fight club.

Okay, that was an icky thought. Sorry.
