I haven't bought it. I was awful at the first one. By the time I started playing, the online community was mostly hard-core veterans that took me apart in minutes. Single player campaign was fun, though.

I never even played the original. Had good fun with Warcraft III with people from here though.

I think I played Warcraft 1, 2 and 3 but never Starcraft. I have a feeling when it came out I was in my Everquest obsession...

Most RTS I get board of after a bit, a bit longer if I play MP.

Starcrafts MP was so good that I enjoyed it last year even.

My boss uses to play Starcraft from time to time to relieve stress at work.
His "15 mins pause, do not disturb" announcements became famous

I did preorder SC2 but I didn't have time to play much (did the tutorial and the first SP mission) so..

It's a bit annoying you apparently have to log on battlenet even to play single player and the whole region lock thing is odd but other than that my very first impression is positive.

I ended up downloading the game as the games offered here were EU only.

It's got to at least be astoundingly brilliant before I'd bother buying it...

Region lock? Does that mean you can't play someone in the US from the EU?

If I'm remembering right, EU and US servers were region locked for WoW as well. Zmama needed to get a Euro copy to play with Vinny.

Oceanic servers came later, not sure if they locked as well.

Starcraft 2 feels very much like Starcraft.
Pros:

Starcraft1!!11!11Eleven
I also like the german translation, the SCV guys are obviously from Berlin. Funny!

Cons:

It's not Warcraft.
No heroes, no items, no LAN matches. Massive armies. The story is a bit boring - I liked Arthas better. No Zerg or Protoss campaign. Kinda Starcraft 1.8

It is Starcraft (I don't mean just the name), that means I am happy. I have bought the old game several times and would again.

Cause it's SC2: Wings of Liberty

SC2: Heart of the Swarm (Zerg campaign)
and
SC2: Legacy of the Void (Protoss campaign)
have already been announced.

Why pass on the opportunity to grab more money?

I've played a few campaign missions and a few skirmishes against the AI, and as others have said, it's Starcraft.

The Terran campaign has, I think, 29 missions that I'll slowly play through. Playing just as the Terrans is kind of boring, so I play some Zerg and Protoss against the AI. Probably end up watching replays of others more than playing myself, just like Warcraft III...

I think 39.99 (as it is on the high street) or 44.99 (as it is in download from Blizzard) is a bit much for a PC game, which are usually no more than 29.99. Was tempted but not at price range.

Well, 40 is the normal price for games here. Was a bit surprised that it didn't cost more, actually. Games used to cost 50 ten years ago. I think Starcraft 1 cost 50 in 1998...

I"m enjoying the game, I like the achievements system, though I'm told it's borrowed from WoW.

After finishing the campaign and watching quite a few high level replays I have mixed feelings. The campaign has some fun maps which play to the strengths of the different units, but the story... Well, I wasn't expecting much, anyway.

Multiplayer replays: Awesome! Some really good games already. At this point, I prefer this to watching TV, or playing myself (but not with myself )

The storyline is nowhere as good as the first one but the sp campaign is very well polished and well presented. Enjoyed it a lot and now i'm trying to get thru it again at brutal difficulty.
I know I'll give up soon

And they're increasing zealot buid time, making it even easier to 6pool rush Protoss. Yay! Just great...

A Zealot rush was nasty and hard to counter, much more than zergling rushes are. We'll see.

Well, that's against Terran. They can rot for all I care. I guess Blizzard care about them, though. Meanwhile I'll continue to 6pool rush Protoss...

But that was bad play. It's not the 6 pool that's strong, if you start extracting gas that early and get rushed you lose, period. If he was rushed with zealots the result would have been the same.
Is as bad as the terran who failed to wall in in my replay.

Bad play = 95% of Protoss on Battle.net

I agree that slowness, teching and focusing too much on the economy should get punished by rushes, but why ignore Terran T1, which is the most broken shit out now, while nerfing poor, poor tossie

I usually go fast forge and photons against zerg, anyway. Seems to work...

From the high level players I read advice from (Diamond level), Protoss don't have much trouble right now with 6pool rushes.

I have only tried a 6pool once, against the computer, didn't do well.
