Duke Nukem Forever dies with 3D Realms.

Most depressing thing about that article is finding out that Duke II came out in 1993! That game was awesome.

Damn, so what's the longest running game in development now that Daikatana got released and Duke Nukem Forever got canned?

I know of one person (Cleve Blakemore) who's developing a game called Grimoire which has a reputation for having missed more promised release dates than we've had hot dinners, but that's a one person development...

This is great. Things that have happened whilst Duke Nukem was being developed, and things that took less time than developing Duke eg. The Beatles entire musical career.

apparently there is a cut scene where the camera pans back to reveal Duke playing the game in his flat with two chicks sucking him off. One chick then says "So how was it Duke...any good" and he says "Yeah, well after 12 years it better fucking had be".

Mike what was the name of that game with an Egyptian theme where you could fire cannon balls at herds of rampaging bulls?

Duke Nukem Forever is due to be released on May 3rd, 2011. Slightly over 14 years in development as it was announced in April 1997. And also a day before Star Wars Day.

Damn. So now we're talking probably Elite IV as the longest running vapourware? Off the top of my head anyway.

Before we sit down with the game, Randy Pitchford tells us that it's nearly finished, but that around 3500 issues are still lurking in the database waiting to be solved. Unless one of them is "overhaul graphics engine", I'm afraid none of them is going to make Duke Nukem Forever feel like a modern videogame.
Ugh.

Well that's a shame. Surely was never going to be good, but to see it scored that low is indeed sad.

"the Redner Group’s official Twitter account posted something you almost never see: an open threat stating that outlets who reviewed Duke Nukem Forever poorly may not receive review copies of games in the future."
