your secret shame - own up!

what are your dirty television secrets? the programs you wouldn't want to admit that you actually really enjoy?

some of mine

ultimate fighting championships: if i never did any martial arts i'd think this was disgustingly brutal but it's genuinely the only sport that i enjoy. i will watch it whenever it is on. add to that K1, any karate competition, boxing etc etc.

car chase programmes: this is really shameful but when there's nothing else to watch i'm very happy watching cops chasing baddies. crashes, arrests, crying, drugs, shooting and all that crap. i feel dirty.

takeshi's castle: this is almost as bad as the awful old uk "it's a knockout" show in the 80s. i think that maybe the fact that it's japanese - and therefore possibly marginally cultural - my brain lets me enjoy this retarded nonsense. it's wrong, but it's so funny!

hitler programmes: just like everyone else, i laughingly refer to documentary channels as hitler and shark channels but hitler and the whole period is infinitely interesting to me. i can watch these programmes while almost entirely switching off my brain and not actually learning anything. weird. the same goes for anything astrophysics related. i've watched countless hours of information about the universe but could write all of my astro-knowledge on the back of a singularity. arf.

Takeshi's Castle is godly.

Come Dine With Me is probably my only guilty secret. Trashy reality tv redeemed by incredibly campy and bitchy presentation.

Yeah, Come Dine With Me, although I've got a bit bored of it now.

22 boxes and only one question... why is this shit so compelling?

Masterchef/The Apprentice other realitiy TV nonsense.

My real guilty tv secret is that I don't like wildlife documentaries and find them quite boring. I stopped telling people when they started reacting like I'd eaten a live kitten. I am totally blasé about nature.

I am (or have been) a huge fan of America's Next Top Model and it's various copycats. Especially, for some reason, Shear Genius which I actually followed week-to-week for its ten-episode run.

Takeshi's Castle, Come Dine With Me (though getting tiresome as others have said) and although it might not be, I feel guilty watching Skins. Maybe because it's blatantly a programme all my pupils watch.

I muct confess I used to like 'would like to meet' and beauty and the geek. I think I must find something satisfying in watching someone undergo personality transformations...

Mostly because I watch those programmes with my wife, who usually has totally different taste in TV to me. It's the shared experience and social bonding thing that makes them special, rather than the shows themselves.

There's no shame in this. How It's Made is one of the great television programs of our generation.

lol, now that swiss waived the bank secrecy, I'll think to that

Oh, I forgot: I was a keen fan of the Roswell series.
I stumbled into reruns recently, and found out after almost a decade that:
- Here with me, is still one of my favest songs ever
- time passed, but I still love Shiri Appleby

Is it that what forever young means?

(note that when I first saw that bogus-sci-fi-alien-area51-teenage series I was already well past my 30s...)

Actually, thinking about it a bit it's possible that the stuff I wouldn't admit to watching is the really masculine stuff, which doesn't go well with my image. Stuff like professional sports and Mythbusters.

Watched Natures Great Events again last night. Absolutely stunning and the best looking HD show I've seen so far.

So at their best they can be good. Not sure if I'd be so gripped if it wasn't for the amazing HDness though.
