Yeah, it seems to have spread like wildfire all over the francophone world last year (including the maghreb and the west indies) and all over the blogosphere these past few months. In some ways it's this year's equivalent of the jumpstyle craze last year, with a similar affinity for dancing unpretentiously in public places , but I guess the phenomenon of dance crazes has made a huge comeback in general with the popularity of YouTube. Hip-hop has the Aunt Jackie, the Pop Lock & Drop It, the Walk It Out, The Soulja Boy (of course), etc. etc. In Africa you've got the Bobaraba, various Coupe Decale variants, and many many more. Even older styles have had huge revivals - just check the fad for Northern Soul Dance.
