BattleGoat Signs with Paradox for Supreme Ruler 2020

Since there was previously some discussion of Supreme Ruler 2010 on this forum, I thought I would come back and share our good news;
Quote:
Paradox Interactive announce Supreme addition to 2008 portfolio

(August 20, 2007) Paradox Interactive revealed today that it has signed Supreme Ruler 2020 to their publishing portfolio of 2008. Developed by BattleGoat Studios, Supreme Ruler 2020 adds many new features, building on the success of the award winning Supreme Ruler 2010.

David Thompson, Lead Designer and Co Founder of BattleGoat Studios commented, "We're thrilled to be working with Paradox. Their reputation and their understanding of the Strategy Genre make them a perfect fit for our games." Some of the recently revealed content for Supreme Ruler 2020 includes the use of 3D for both Map Elements and Military Units, high resolution satellite imagery, numerous gameplay options like World 'Sandbox' mode and much more.

"BattleGoat has not made all details of this next installment public yet but once revealed we are sure that the strategy gaming community will agree with our assessment that this is one of the most exciting additions to the genre in a long time, said Fredrik Wester, Executive Vice President Paradox Interactive.
We have also released a screenshot;

I guess I should have included the link to our official website, sorry;

www.supremeruler.com

The section for Supreme Ruler 2020 still has only limited information, we've not released much, but the information should start to build as we work towards the beta. The concept of the game is similar to Supreme Ruler 2010 but we learned so much from the first game that there are many new features being added to improve the gameplay and look. It will still be a very in depth game however.

For those interested, our latest press release and screenshots offer a very interesting new gameplay option;

Quote:
(February 1, 2008) Paradox Interactive and BattleGoat Studios are pleased to release new details on their upcoming Geo-political strategy game, Supreme Ruler 2020. One of the innovative new features is the wide-open "Super Sandbox" mode, which allows players to take control of nearly any country or region of the world.

Supreme Ruler 2020 will ship with three Super Sandbox maps:

--> "Modern World" is a map that mirrors the world of the near future. Play as the United States, military super-power and economic engine of the world, or play as an emerging African nation, or any one of over 180 independent regions.

--> "Shattered World" represents an alternate future where major nations have crumbled and smaller regions fight for power and influence. Play as an American state, a Canadian Province, or a sub-region of Europe, Russia, or China.

--> "Hot Spots" adds challenges in some of the world's most unstable regions - deal with situations in Kashmir, Palestine, Tibet, Kurdistan, Kosovo, Western China, and more.

Supreme Ruler 2020 features an economic and geo-political simulation of the real world unmatched in any other strategy game, and also features a tactical military model that allows players to plan and fight battles at the battalion level - zoom in to see an individual city or zoom out to see the entire world!

The 'no limits' design of Supreme Ruler 2020 allows players to battle it out for a small region of the world, or wage military campaigns against hundreds of regions across entire continents and oceans. Play one of the included missions or scenarios, or just play the world in Super Sandbox and watch the future unfold. Nearly unlimited options for customization and modding will also allow creation of new scenarios and 'what if' situations.

Supreme Ruler 2020 is scheduled for release in May 2008, to be published worldwide by Paradox Interactive.

I'll be following that up

the no limits "claim" is mightly ambitious, but I wholeheartedly share the vision of Battlegoat. Balthagor, if you want French gamers to know about it, adress it at cyberstratege.com

I have good memories of a geostrategy game I use to play on my amiga in the late 80s', simulating the arms race and escalating nuclear crisis (I was always ending up being nuked on some minor hot spots...)

We don't send copies out for review, the publisher does. You'd have to talk to Paradox.

As for the no limits claim, it will of course be no limits within the sandbox. Since the Sandbox will start at 2020 you won't be able to do a realistic Vietnam or anything like that, but even at that we expect the Super Sandbox to be mighty impressive.

Naw, Susan is a nice gal, plus I already have a press account to DL all paradox games.

I was rather surprissed that this guy wants press and is not friendly to members of it, like us.

And yes Nav, I would send you a copy of the review to use, I always said you can use any of mine on CG.

I don't think he was being unfriendly, I think he was concerned about being deluged by "no, I want a review copy!" requests. And you've already got a Paradox account so why ask?

Plus if talking to Paradox can lead to you not being born I'd encourage as many of you as possible to try.

Joking aside, I think developers generally get an incredibly hard time from the game playing internet community, and if we take everything they say in the worst way possible and slate them for it, they won't talk to us. Which would be bad.

Probaly because lots of game makers go to web sites and say their games are better then sliced bread and they normally suck could be why.

Also, Paradox does not distribute games in the USA, they usually contract out to complanies like Strategy first, and they can be a pain to get review copies from.

This type of game would be considered 'third party' by them, hard to get ahold of.

Keep in mind Mike, I'm offering him free advertizing by reviewing a game, i see hundreds of games a year, it's not like I'm hurting to see it.

You can seem surprissed all you like, I have been game reviwing for 5 years now, we get a lot of games sent unsolicited, many are so horrible they never see the light of day of a game review.

On an average day I get 2-3 requests from tiny companies for coverage of whatever they have.
