SMAC2, Colonization2 or Silent Service 2?

Vote here at the Firaxis site for which classic Sid game you'd like to see remade.

Votes are currently sitting at:
46% Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri
1% Sid Meier’s Sim Golf
1% Sid Meier’s Gettysburg!
29% Sid Meier’s Colonization
1% Sid Meier’s Covert Action
3% Sid Meier’s Railroad Tycoon
1% Gunship
0% F-19 Stealth Fighter
1% Red Storm Rising
11% Silent Service
7% I don’t care about remakes, give me something new!

Mmmm, Colonization 2.

Hmm. Mind you, this was posted on the Poly website on 3/5/2005, so it may be a tad old.

I'd go for Colonization myself since I really loved the original back in the day.

I plead ignorance based on the fact the poll was still up. Well, and my own stupidity.

Guess they ignored the votes they got, cos they didn't remake either Col or SMAC.

I voted for SMAC

If I was a sadist, I'd vote for Simgolf

If I was a masochist, I'd have bought it already

I've been playing FreeCol which seems quite faithful to the original but with improved graphics and a multiplayer option (yet to try that)

FreeCol

Silent Service has been done in remakes by other people well enough already. It was a good, revolutionary game, but it doesn't need a sequel from Sid.

Personally I'd like to see an updated version though, with more and/or added features. Does Freecol have any of that?

Yeah, I bought my Gettysburg copy when Finn Willi was 3 years old. A bargain, 20 Marks, because it was old even then. It was the year we got internet access at work.

Yeah, the similations market is extremly specialised now and Firaxis hardly have any expertese in that area, unlike Microprose used to.

Few games require the franchise extension/cash extraction treatment from the master. Sadly, a lot of them get it and we all keep falling for it

They have it plans, once they advance through version 1.0.
