Ich bin ein Berliner

Well i'm not of course, but i am intending a trip out there to see a friend so wondered if anyone who has been or knows the city might be able to give me some travel tips.

I'm looking to go end of sept and the plane fares for direct routes seem pretty high, like £350+. Early september they're crazy, like £400 or so. But the alternatives seem to involve changes at Dusseldorf which i'd like to avoid.

Main question though, is there any public holidays or particular events going on around this time that i should avoid? I don't want to get caught up in the love parade or something...

I saw some advert for a £35 flight to Berlin today... I'll see if I can find the company.

Ah... ok the offer was Berlin £39 one way on BA, outbound travel first two weeks in November. Sleazyjet and Ryanair both have direct flights end of September that come in under £100 return.

I think they go to the airport which is a fair way outside Berlin though.

edit: 31 minute train journey from city.

I am itching to go to Berlin, never having been. I have no more holidays for the year though sadly :-(

Berlin is a pretty cool place to go to, I'm afraid I can't give you any specific tips though. I went by car when I visited some friends there, I remember some cool bars which were in former east Berlin but I've got no idea anymore of what part of town they were in.

Air Berlin has cheap fares btw. You probably have to add taxes, but it looks pretty reasonable.

You can get a Stansted-Berlin return flight with Air Berlin for like £75 if you choose carefully.

a Bärn-Bärlin flight must be unbearable

like watching a Bears match and a Cubs match on the same day

Lou Reed had a blast in Berlin considering his depressed CD.

best lyric ever:
Caroline says when she gets up from the floor,
why is it that you beat me......it isn't any fun!!!
makes me laugh every time

Long time since we did some threadkilling research. I recommend MoSe to provide us with some graphs showing the threadkill to postcount ratio.

it would be about time that Nav provided me with direct access to the Forum DB, read-only would do but with unlimited query clearance

BTW, a threadkill is never a definitive status, unless the thread is locked.
Some brilliant poster might always come up and bump a 4 years ago thread at anytime
and should I remind you that we don't believe in postcount?

Why I just got back from there the week before last. Berlin is cool, but there is no way you should be paying that kind of money to fly there...I paid just over £50 for my tickets including taxes...
