"Fanny Lehideux"
I won't comment on Fanny, but Lehideux means "the hidious one"

I was one of them, and still work a big chunck of my time in London/UK, for an English company, so don't expect me to disagree

when I arrived in London in 94, there were already about 200.000 french there, making it comparable to a sizable french town... it only grew from there

If there are 350,000 French, that's a bigger population than all but the 4 biggest French cities. (according to http://www.citypopulation.de/France.html)

So if a guy wants to nail a French girl he'd stand a better chance in London then in most of France?

real figures are probably higher (a lot of young people do declare themselves at the embassy, and don't pay taxes, so difficult to track)

but certainly you keep hearing a lot of french spoken in London

The site has some problems though, there are several obvious flaws in the Dutch data. I guess it's hard to define what exactly is part of a city and what's not.

That site also puts to bed the claim that Manchester is the second city...

smaller than Birmingham both in city population and in terms of the urban area.

They have reliable sources: Many population figures of 1981 and 1991 have been provided by Ulrich Buys and Clive Thornton.

The dutch ones are done by "municipalities" not cities, I assumed that was some kind of local government division?

Wow, I never knew cities were so small in Europe. Only London, Paris, Berlin, and Hamburg on that list are larger then where I live. The funny thing is we're considered that little place south of LA.

Hey give us a chance Oerdin, your country's population is five times the UK's. If you just took the most populous cities in europe we would have a different list.

Hamburg has 1.7 million population and the US only has 9 cities with more than a million population. Only New York, LA, Chicago and Houston are bigger than Hamburg.
