Media Transfer Protocol

I'm thinking of getting an iRiver Clix MP3 player. It uses MTP instead of UMS though. I think you can drag & drop non-A/V media files onto it like a UMS device, but apparently that doesn't work alongside MTP. I like the idea of MTP and want to use it, but if I can't use the thing as a regular file transfer device, that rather impairs its usefulness. Does anyone know if MTP allows non-A/V media (e.g. documents, text files, etc.) to be transfered?
