Is a widescreen worth it?

On a laptop?

Or is it just something you'll use once or twice?
I like the more compact size of the normal screens and the widescreens seem a bit weird to me. And laptops they're like 100 euros more expensive when the have a widescreen.

widescreen is for watching DVDs isn't it?
for all other things won't the resolution screw things up? like games etc?

what do you think?

Widescreen wouldn't screw anything up, but I'm not sure it's worth the cost if you don't watch videos.

My laptop has a bigger than average screen (not sure if it's specifically widescreen or just 17" or something), and I find it really useful for using programs like Photoshop/Dreamweaver etc that have lots of menus and palettes on screen. Also films and slideshows and stuff look miles nicer.
