Congrats: Antony and the Johnsons

Antony and the Johnsons just won the Mercury music award.

I must admit I've never heard this guy but the performance he gave was amazing.

It's Matt Lucas, isn't it? It's a "Little Britain" skit that went horribly out of control.

It had Bernard Butler on guitar and I immediately thought back to that horrible, horrible McAlmont dickhead and how it sounds a little bit similar.

I don't know if i like it or not, I mean the guy can sing alright but it's a tad too warbly and ephemeral for me.

Visually he brings to me the by-product of sperm-mingling between Tiny Tim and Demis Roussos.

Also his surname is Hegarty, so he may be related to the bass vocalist of 'Darts'.

I saw them perform on 'The Culture Show' a while back...

It's good that some non-mainstream acts win the Mercury but with the latest winner it seems like it's turning into the Turner Prize of music as it leaves you trying to work out why they picked the winner. I'm glad that M.I.A rabble didn't win and the performance by The Go Team (sounds like some new Power Rangers toy) reminded me of end of a Live8 type concert where all the different artists who featured that day try to perform a song together and end up sounding crap.

I would be quite interested in hearing a band called 'Boris and the Johnsons' though
