My Christmas gift for my Girlfriend's Family

I decided about a month ago that I'd make mix CDs for my GFs mom, dad, little sister, little brother and big sister.

I didn't realise at the time I'd do them all in about a day and a half. Jesus christ. I've been working for six hours solid (plus four yesterday) and I'm only just over half-done.

The problem lies in their insanely disparate music tastes. Done so far are one CD with nothing but Finnish Tango, one with C64 SIDs, and (practically) one with hard rock/grunge/metal. Now to make an 80s/90s pop one and a 60s rock one...

It's evolved into some kind of crooner pop there.

I think I've made SUM a posthumous 15-year-old fan in the little sister.

Yeah, Tango's popular in Finland, generally among middle-agers. There's even a big annual competition which ends up crowning the Tango king and the Tango queen (both of which become instant celebrities, natch.) Snapcase's description of 'crooner pop' is apt.

On the other hand, it's also led to 'Nainen Tanssii Tangoa', one of the finer pieces by the Finnish rock band CMX that would probably be included in my Finnish rock compilation CD (in similar vein to Snapcase's Swedish rock CD) if I ever got around making it.

(Incidentally, the guy we sent to Eurovision in 2004 was a former Tango king. Sigh)
