GB win Olympic medals shock

I can't honestly believe it - Great Britain have finally managed to win a pair of medals.
I actaully watched the Womens Curling last night, very exciting is was too, nice work girls!

Womens skeleton - great that she got Bronze, but I'd just like to query one thing. Our girl had to make her final run in the middle of a snow flurry with the track actually covered in snow in places, slowing her down. However, immediately after our girl finished, they closed the track and swept all the snow off. Guess who was next? The US competitor, who took Gold.
Surely a co-incidence?

Must have been... Still as she said, it's still an Olympic medal. Hard to be upset about that. Women curlers did brilliantly.

Classic that it came down to the last stone, of the last end in the match. Real drama!

The Womens skeleton thing has a fishy smell to it if you ask me... Still, bloody well done, we rule

Funky, before that when they were making their first runs it was also snowing. I think everyone made at least 1 run in the snow.

I'm not sure. I didn't watch the whole event. It was snowing most of the day and I don't know how often they swept the track.

You rarely ever do. Either do I.

It's not like NBC would actually do an in detail event coverage.

The Russians are contesting those medals. They say that Britain isn't good at any sports.

What ever happened to that "Eddie the Eagle" guy who was famous for being the worst ski jumper in the Olympics a few years back?

Another Olympics finished, no medals, no chance of getting a medal.

New Zealand truly embodys the Olympic spirit.

He is still the British record holder. Amazing that he even got there, I think there wasn't a jump in the country when he made it to the Olympics. Dunno what he's doing now though. I don't think we've had anyone in the Ski Jump since him.

... that is, apart from Glynn Pedersen, competing this year. Details: "First Olympic ski jumping representative from Great Britain since 1988 Calgary Games...Broke James LAMBERT's 1994 British record earlier this season by jumping 85 meters in the K90 Continental Cup event in Berchtesgaden, Germany...Competed in both 2002 Olympic events, but did not qualify for main competitions, neither on K90 nor on K120."

I seem to recall he's studying to become a solicitor or something.

Ahh - here we go:-

Quote:
Michael (Eddie the Eagle) Edwards SKI JUMPING

Olympic Highlights: Charmed fans worldwide in 1988, finishing last in the 70- and 90-meter events in Calgary

Since 1988, when he became one of sports' most lovable losers, Edwards has been on one long celebrity swoop: He has, among other things, judged beauty contests, skied down the side of a London office building and been shot out of a cannon. So it only makes sense that Edwards's latest pursuit is ... law school? "Who wouldn't want to hire a legal Eagle?" asks the 38-year-old Edwards, who's in his second year at De Montfort University in Leicester, England. The Eagle became interested in law in 1990 when he sued the trustees of a trust fund he had established with his appearance fees, a nest egg valued at $1 million, for mismanagement and negligence. He settled for $500,000. "Oh, well," he says. "That's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick."

Edwards has had no problem cashing in on his name. He makes about 30 appearances a year and hosts a Sunday-morning radio show for the BBC. He says that a movie based on his life is set to begin filming in March, with Mike Myers and Ewan McGregor being considered to play the Eagle. "I originally wanted Brad Pitt because he's the only one who's good-looking enough," says Edwards, who is a bachelor, "but if they can get Catherine Zeta-Jones to play my girlfriend, then I'll play the role myself."
