Whoa, bloody hell

I've just bought "Defixiones Will and Testament" by Diamanda Galas. It's a double-album in a hardback book format all about the Armenian/Anatolian/Greek genocides in Turkey- mostly sung in Armenian by the extraordinary Galas in an avant-garde ethnic operatic style.

It's, to be blunt, scary. I've got a lot of "challenging" music, but I think this one is the new champion at killing any party stone dead. My, but it's intense.

Challenging and intense as in "I'd recommend this" or as in "what the hell have I got myself into?!?"?

It's undeniably very, very good. However it's a bit of a monster.

And now it's on my shopping list.
