If Walrus still posted here...

We could ask him if he was right or left handed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3207912.stm

Quote:
The walrus is the latest animal shown by scientists to prefer using one hand, or one flipper, over the other.

The ivory-tusked sea mammal tends to use its right flipper to forage for clams on the sea bed, say researchers.

Interesting to say the least.

Still, one man's fact is another man's crusade and is the third man's definition of delusion. I find all those people who speak with absolute certainty sounding increasingly like the absolutely certifiable.

No accounting for the utterly delusional no matter what (or which) hat they wear.

What is the point of arguing about it?

It comes down to Saddam in, Saddam out.

Sorry I brought this up. This was the reason half of Counterglow left for FFZ though.

I think that bringing the whole issue down to the above question is a little rediculous.

I'm not anti-American or anti anyone (just in case you wondered). I know you guys really thought you were right - it's hard not to support your country when you are told there is a threat. Any doubt of that threat will evaporate when your country goes in to war mode.

I understand the reasons behind your point of view. If my government convinced me that, let's say Tonga was developing weapons of mass destruction in order to blow Britain up, I would support the War on Tonga whole-heartedly. If I were a real patriot it wouldn't cross my mind that my government may be doing this for other reasons. To think such things would make me as bad as the evil Tongans.

I understand that most Americans think it's unpatriotic and wrong to doubt the motives of their president - especially in a time of a perceived threat. Why else would he want to invade a small, harmless, oil-rich and strategically vital Middle Eastern country?

Now that the main part of the war is over and America has occupied Iraq for quite some time it's clear that there weren't weapons of mass destruction. The war was ill-conceived and has left the country in a mess. It has also made the world perceive America as a genuine threat to world peace and as a bully.

Iraq is now an occupied territory and a huge problem to solve. I can see the Iraq problem continuing for many years to come with terrorism on the increase as Iraqis and some Muslims grow more disgusted with what they see as an illegal raping of the Middle East by Imperialist Americans. To sum up - the eurotwats were right.

So this is my point of view and that is the reason that I said why "Walrus hasn't come back because we were right".

Long winded explaination sorry. whew.

Has it occurred to you that it is possible for people on both sides of an issue to be right?

I think the real problems start when people begin putting words into other people's mouths and then arguing on the basis of what they think the other guy(s) is thinking. And I think that when you get to emotional issues, like war, peace, and nationalism, then the potential for major problems among people increases dramatically.

That's what I think.

Yes. If you think you know the truth then you think you are right. I think that I'm right but I'm not stupid enough to think that the truth I think is the only truth. I could be wrong. So could America.

What you and I know about the Iraq problem is actually a weird distorted truth as portrayed by the media. There are a handfull of people on the planet who know the most amount of facts and come near to the truth. These people would be the people who were advising Mr Bush to go and blow up people in Iraq.

They could have been:
1. Men in suits acting in the best interests of the US - to make the US richer, healthier, more powerful.
2. Bush's Right wing Christian buddies on a religious crusade.
3. Good willed and misguided government folk who really believed that Saddam was working with Bin Laden and other evil muslims to nuke the good ole U S of A.

I think the answer is a mixture of those three.

Since I've been here in the U.S. I have been made very aware of just how many Americans think that "patriotic" equals "stand by your President, even if you slightly (or even radically) do not agree with him".

To me, that's just alien and wrong.

During my time in Australia, it seemed to me to be that to be patriotic was to hold the Government up to all its faults, however minor. Patriotism is defined as love of county, not which administration is currently running the show. I don't see that here, I see a perverted (to my standards) message of patriotism that's only gotten worse since 9/11.

This is not intended as a War Good/War Bad post, or even a Bush Good/Bush Bad post. Clinton was as much a dick as Bush is.

--------

"But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government." -- Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address, March 4, 1837

“There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men.” -- Edmund Burke

Quotes from [urlhttp://www.freedomkeys.com/vigil.htm]freedomkeys.com[/url], a darn good collection of posts that sum up a lot of what I think about government and freedom and stuff.
