Cool Your limited-edition treasures

I used to spend a lot of money on rare Metallica stuff - limited edition releases, box sets etc. The stuff is still all packed up in kiwiland in my Dad's garage, but I can remember some of it.

Probably the most expensive thing I have is this box set that was released when the live version of 'One' came out as a single. It's a small black wooden box shaped like a coffin with a huge skull attached to the lid. Cost me 250 quid!

Hmmm...never got into anything like that. Bought a big Bob Marley comp...lots of double sets by a few others...
I have an Enigma Records double LP with a bunch of great bands on it. I did eye the Grateful Dead box set the other day, as well as two very nice and rare looking Nick Drake LP boxed sets (expensive!)--but I don't know enough about him to drop that kind of coin.
I don't know how much 250 quid is...but it's probably too much if there weren't any porn pix or candy enclosed in that coffin.

Trojan claims its box sets (of which I have 29) are Limited Edition. But that's just a random space-filler I think.

Box sets I own with 4 or more CDs in them:

The Stax Story (4 CDs)
The Chess Blues Box Set (4 CDs)
Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the first psychadelic era 1965-68 (4 CDs)
Tougher than Tough: The Story of Jamaican Music (4 CDs)
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles: The 35th Anniversary Collection (4 CDs)
Phil Spector: Back to Mono (4 CDs)

And, the coup de gras, the ultimate nerd set ever constructed,

The Complete Stax/Volt Singles 1959-68

9 CDs Baby! Except mine looks different and has a bigger booklet.

The one properly Limited Edition set I'd really, really like to get my hands on is the now unavailable 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions.

I got the "Nuggets" box as well!
And "Nuggets 2" and "Cowabunga". And the "Doo Wop" box.And "Citizen Steely Dan" and a B.B. King box.

And I got a 8 CD box "POP 2000 - 50 Jahre deutsche Popmusik".

But that's not rare stuff, just compilations. The only funny thing I got is "Psychoderelict" as a censored radio version + a music only CD

I don't have anything rare, I think. A few special editions with slightly different artwork or extra tracks, but nothing expensive or really rare.

If you want relative rarity I have a few promos that might suffice, including the Original Pirate Material promo which has a slightly different track listing to the final release. Slightly scuffed, £20 anyone?

I have Waterfall by the Stone Roses on 12" (original pressing). I think that would probably be worth something to someone. Other than that, I have a few earley-mid 90's indie things that are pretty rare, but I'd imagine, pretty worthless (Ltd edition Family Cat Golden Book anyone? thought not)

My parents have an EMI India pressing of Yellow Submarine complete with pop-up book style artwork which is supposed to be worth about £500. They have lots of other Beatles stuff too, like old fan-club singles and autographs, etc.

Oh, and for a while in about '99 or 2000, Geffen released this quite limited series of albums on gold CD's (supposedly they are better quality in some way), with extra booklet notes and photos. I have 'In Utero' from this series. I think each release was limited to about 10000 copies.

Hmmm...... *fires up ebay*

I have a Beatles record, the one where they walk the pedestrian line?, and it's original from 1969 or something. But I think it's printed in Greece.

I also have some, and that's indeed rare but I don't know if it's also valuable, Mano Negra 45 recod with two singles songs.

If you really think you can make money we can make a deal. I got the chance to buy one of Zappa's Mesa/Boogie guitar amps at the local music store for only 2000 EUR including a certificate by Dweezil.

A bunch of Happy Hardcore CD's from Europe my ex gave me. I nearly killed one of my friend's when he broke one. Having both House Connection 1 & 2 autographed by both Richard "Humpty" Vision and Bad Boy Bill. A few other CD's, but those are the one's which are notable.

Metallica won't die, they are the RIAA's badboys for anti-piracy. They will be frozen like Walt Disney and brought back to life when needed.
