Another new Sonic Undermind song for you...

It's called Painless. When we were writing it we set out to create a rock anthem but things changed as we started to work on ideas and in the end it came out as more of a moody rock epic, well epic for us anyway. It's six and a half minutes, easily the longest song we've ever done.

Going to release the 4 songs we've done recently as an EP called They've Created a Monster. After that quote from BBC Berkshire.

cool, how many copies of the ep are you going to make?

and if you don't mind me asking, how much is it going to cost you?

are you going to be giving these out/selling them at gigs, or trying to get them into local record shops/selling them online?

Well, we're going to make them ourselves rather than get them made professionally. Hard to do that for volumes under 500 and not worth it. 500 professionally printed CDs with inlay sleeves etc is £500+, which isn't bad as a price per CD but we can't sell anywhere near 500 and we couldn't afford to spend £500 and not get the money back somehow.

So they'll be similar to the last CD we did I think. To make they cost the price of a blank CD which is quite low 'cause I can get them from work. + time to record them + cover printing costs, which we haven't got a price for yet. Materials probably work out as slightly under a pound per CD depending how much the printing is going to be. Downside is that it takes a long time to make the damn things. I think we'll probably do about 80 to start with and see how they go. We've got a big list of people to send them to so probably half will get sent out as demos to get gigs etc. and we'll try and sell the rest at gigs to cover some of our travel costs etc. Very expensive being in a band.

We did about 70 of the last CD I think.

No plans to get them into shops/sell them online yet. I'd want them to be properly produced printed CDs for that. The Josaka compliation we're going to be on will be available in shops and to buy online though.

I've listened to it. It's pretty good, though I don't agree that it's your best song. Also Pete's vocals seem a little quiet in the mix, almost like he's singing behind the main guitars, but that's just my opinion. Overall it's good, certainly doesn't seem like it goes on for six and a half minutes or whatever. Oh, and one other little criticism, that bit near the end with the distorted bass playing on it's own, sometimes I really like it, sometimes I think it sounds like something being played far too loud through tiny, shitty speakers. Again just my opinion.

Overall B+

It’s good, but Debaser’s already mentioned the vocals: no wonder it doesn’t feel very anthemic! And I love the distorted bass bit personally.

I think every new song that we do is our best song because it's new.

The vocals on the verse sound low on my headphones but on my speakers at home they sound great. I think protein is thinking about doing a little bit of a further remix.

BGH, download a song!!!

I just tried this: they sound better on my headphones than my speakers .

Weird.

protein has a few different sets of speakers at his house so he can try out how it sounds on different systems. It's unbelievable how much it changes things.
