I'm sure no one else here likes this

But I'll make a thread anyway, since people may surprise me. The new Third Eye Blind CD came out on tuesday.

So Third Eye Blind is mostly known for their pop-rock songs like Semi-Charmed Life (how did this one slip by their censors anyway?), or Jumper, or Never Let You Go.

They're also somewhat less known for the controversy surrounding the song Slow Motion from their last album, which their record company censored and prevented the lyrics from being released on the North American release of it. Their best songs are the ones that never were released as a single ("Motorcycle Driveby" is one of my favorite songs of all time).

The third album, Out of the Vein, is really good. Third Eye Blind's music gets better the more you listen to it. All of their CDs have been like that, it takes 4-5 listens to get into them. But the lyrics (written by UC Berkeley Valedictorian Stephan Jenkins), catchy hooks, and guitar work from the new guitarist who used to be in a metal band and trained by Joe Satriani blend together to make a rather stunning collection of songs.

The best songs that I've listened to so far are Crystal Baller, Misfits, Can't Get Away, Wake for Young Wouls, and Palm Reader.

Misfits is just a haunting song to me, just great.

So I wonder if any of you fuckers actually like this stuff or do you all think it's crap and prefer Audioslave?

They're one of those typical American-Pie-soundtrack kind of bands. Sort of summery up-tempo guitar pop. The kind of band that are massive in America, and probably have one or two hits over here. Not really my kind of thing, but by far the worst of their genre*

I think comparing them with Wheatus is a little harsh.

Well, I'm glad Asher likes them.

He and the millions of others with boring taste keep me in Cote du Rhone.

I think a friend lent me one of their CDs once. I’m sure I listened to it a lot, but damned if I can remember what any of it sounded like.

Ouch.

The difference being, Third Eye Blind's music is more than the pop crap that Wheatus is.

Have Wheatus ever had a hit single about sex, doing crystal meth, and bondage with a faux-pop chorus that slipped past censors?

I just downloaded Blinded (When I See You) from their website.

Debaser's description is absolutely spot on.

Blinded is generally consider by the fans by far the worst song on the album. The live versions are good (it was many people's favorite before the album's release), but the studio version wasn't as well put together as it could have been.
