Goddamn fucking bullshit!

I've just got a used PC (1 year old, so it's ok). But it has some fucked up settung wrt cookies:

I can't log into the board. Well I can, but the very next moment the login gets deleated. I've set cookies in IE to accept all, so it has to be some damn utility program. Any ideas where this may hide?

PS: Don't jubilate, I still have the access via the laptop.

er....I'm guessing, but if it starts up on it's own then there is probably at least a link to the pesky program in your startup folder (or whatever the PC equivelant is called).

Until you've figured out what it is I suggest the following temporary measure:

Counterglow Control Panel -> Set Options -> Browse Board With Cookies (no)

At least you'll be able to post until the problem is solved.

As for what it could be, have you checked that IE hasn't set itself to High privacy by itself?

Thanx for the options tip.

IE isn't set to high privacy or something similar. And I had the same problem in netscape. It writes the cookies on the harddrive, but apparantly kicks me out as soon as I submit a post.

You checked your system tray? Most cookie killers I'm familar with will drop an icon in there, so you can do things like set a particular web site ok to have a cookie and such.

Other common applications/tools... humm... what's its firewall/AV? Is it a full package from Norton or McAffee? Both have privacy protectors in their bigger packages, that will block/delete permanent cookies.

Got it to work now. There was a corrupted (?) firewall program. It didn't show in the system tray, and could not be started to change the settings. After uninstalling it, the problem's gone.

I use msconfig.exe to prune things from the startup queue. It handles apps started from the Startup icon group as well as apps started from the registry.
