If you look at the ranting there and here, you get a nice balanced view on the war in iraq.

I disagree. Generally speaking, balance is not 5 minutes of free speech for Hitler, and 5 minutes for the jews.

More specifically, a balanced view on Iraq couldn't be found by balancing 50% of FFZ and 50% of counterglow, but by balancing 50% of FFZ and 50% of a rabid pro arabic, anti american forum

This is not what CG is. Most people here think this war is stupid, but only because it is totally counterproductive to objectives we can agree on (reduce terrorism, increase stability in ME, with the added bonus of getting rid of a tyran).

Well, I think it is more subtle than that. It is more the weighting that people give to different threats and/or outcomes. For example, you could argue that the war makes terrorism more likely in the short run while I would argue that it makes it less effective in the long run. Both views have validity but a pro-war person such as me would argue that the second factor outweighs the first while you would argue the reverse.

I would say that, here, us pro-war posters would share many of the concerns as you would raise but just regard other things as being of higher priority.

For me it is. To FFZ CG is a bunch of america hating commies. Here FFZ is a fascist war loving bunch. Both sides will say they are not on the extreme, the other side is.

Well I think there will be no bigger long-term boost for terrorism than a failed occupation of Iraq. Be that as it may, this kind of argument has nothing to do with what is going on at FFZ.

Maybe. But that depends on an assumption which may or may not prove to be founded.

I was referring to here. There is no kind of argument there just cheerleading.

Exactly, which is why 50 % of CG and 50 % of FFZ won't give you some kind of middle of the road perspective.

There is more argument here, but there is also some cheerleading here. So there it does give some more perspective to things.

I, for one, would not say FFZ is fascist, it's just a particularly petulant form of republican jingoism (mixed with self righteousness, self pity, and macho talk). Fascism is really something else.

Besides, neither FFZ nor CG are on the extreme (in general, although some posters are), there is a lot of margin to go further towards the extreme of the spectrum

I think the problem is that the site is 1 dimensional. In that way it may be "fascist", but in general its just cheering at each other.
I went there several times and because it's the opposite of the free thinking and open internet community I'd like to be part of won't go there any more.

FFZ is like a sports bar dedicated to a favored local football team, during football season, if someone wants to go in there wearing the jersey/colors of their rivals then they better be prepared to take some shit. They can take it good naturedly and stayand have drinks, or they can talk smac', piss off the local drunks' and summarily get kicked out.

Once football season is over then things may cool down.

(Though I meant football to be used for both its meanings, I must say that I feel very American at this point for having made a war analogy using football. )

Colon, there were 2 events that caused the split. One was Chris becoming greatly offended at a jib from Maroule. With the political pissing going on back and forth, that put Chris over the top. He decided to go play at FFZ, and invite over people he liked from the various forums he posts/ed at.

CG is not currently 'American' friendly. It is now, however, ranging from almost neutral to occassionally bashing.

@FFZ, most of it is not a parody of feeling. There are a some posters there that do make parody of the general site's sentiments, but I hadn't noticed that many at FFZ had noticed.

Mind you, I haven't spent much time at FFZ since I got GalCiv though, so if things have changed or toned down in the last few days, I wouldn't know.
