In a general sense I mean taking anything seriously. In particular, I mean applying the M-W definition "to take or engage the whole attention of : occupy completely <ideas that have engrossed the minds of scholars for generations>" to any particular idea.

The first one's not bad. As for the second one, I was only asking for pics of girls named Elsa, not men.

What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.

My cheerful thoughts are any misfortune you suffer.

I’m quite split right now. Part of me feels sorry, realises Chris in a lot of pain, that he needs to release that, and that he’s ready to use any available target. For the record, I have not, here or elsewhere, insulted the memory of anybody, and I’ll get a nice bottle of wine to anybody who can prove the contrary.
I hope you drink it and get hit by a truck.

Quote:
But part of me also feels annoyed at being assaulted by a raving lunatic. Because that’s what you are, Chris, loosing all sense of direction and purpose, self pitying and self righteous. Many other posters were probably hurt similarly before, and whether you loose you best friend in the two towers or in a car crash doesn’t change a thing. Stop being fascinated by yourself, the rest of the world moves on, and yes life is a lot to take sometimes. And there won't always be a frenchman around to get the blame for it...
No, your an arrogant insensitive prick, trying to style yourself as anything else is bullshit.

Quote:
On the bigger debate of ‘Can you laugh with everything’, I believe that you can, but not with everybody (as this thread shows). My understand of humour as the ‘politeness of despair’ makes me see humour as a protection from the pain we get. Humour is not trivial, it is our finest trait (Plato, poorly translated ‘Laughing is a unique to mankind’). Some however feel sullied by it. That’s fine with me. That’s why you will NEVER see me make a joke on the towers’ victims with somebody who might object to it, or with anybody, actually, I don’t see the fun in it. That’s the irony of it : after 31 years of being an insensitive prick, I get accused on the one bad joke I didn’t make…
It's for me to decide what I would laugh at, NOT YOU.

Your a piece of shit, and I wish only ill-will on you.

Me?

I detect no malicious intent from maroule or anyone else.

BTW, (and, no, I am not kidding) I lost a good friend in a car accident yesterday so I am not so amused about anything that's posted including 4 wheels particularly American because their car was hit by a Ford....

Where do you stop? I will take issue at all 4 wheeled and American jokes from now on? Do you wish that?

I suggest that all just stop. We all have friends that deserve better than such bitching. If it matters then we should rise above it. If it doesn't then why bother - there are better battles to fight.

Maybe it's time to recognoze that not all of us find everything funny, and don't like being told we are being a stiff if we dodn't, which is why I loathe maroule, he did EXACTLY this.

All I said was I can't laugh at it, not that others shouldn't, and he started with a mockery campaign, including using my old location field in an attempt to make me look stupid.

It was obvious I was joking from the first post I made, yet he kept right on going.
This is the SECOND time he has done this, he did the same in a political thread once also.

The man is shit, and I would not and will not appologize to that asshole, or let it go.

He will decide if it continues, if he posts once more about how he's a poor little innocent poster, I will NEVER stop.

You want to be a prick?
Forget it, I invented being a prick.

Being a prick you are, in fact, pretty amateur - so please do not flatter yourself. There are many better in exalted offices all round this planet so I do not know from where you develop this inflated view of your abilities.

Yes it is time Chris, so drop it.

I will ignore references to Ford and 4 wheels if you will. Or do I get a blank cheque on you over this?

I am sorry you have probems with Europe but, you know, I can't move because your immigration dept would not give me a green card.

So, I am a sick Euro who lost a good friend yesterday. Why not go ahead and make my life worse, I know you want to....

I just want to chip in to say I'm sorry, RC. I too know how it is to lose close friends to car accidents. The combined toll we pay for highway traffic is just amazing - there has to be a better way.

Moomin,

Thanks. It is worse because I know his widow quite well too - we were at uni together.

So, Chris, this "I am being picked on as an American" just stinks to me. We are all picked on as human beings and there is no greater victimisation on that side of the atlantic as there is here.

Fine - make it personal if you want to - but then it ceases to be a principle...

yes, well maybe everyone should take a chill pill.

Only Maroule knows if he intentionally mocked Chris' pain. I was somewhat surprised with Chris' reaction. But then again I don't know what chris has gone through, and I don't know what he and maroule have been up to in the past.

So why not leave it at this. With so many people posting here, it's difficult to be friends with everyone. As long as people know who not to cross, we can all be a happy little community here.

Maybe now we can let this sink?
