Obligatory "what I did on my holiday" post.

Australia, September 2009

Chances are these are less boring than what you're doing now. Maybe. I've been told the snorkeling mask makes me look sophisticated.

Also, road sign in Daintree, butterfly in Kuranda (very touristy), ant nest on a tree branch in Daintree, and what could be Greg baiting a crocodile with a dead chicken in the Australia Zoo, Brisbane.

I also have a shutterfly page, which is often slow to load, but has about 300 pictures. I can send the link and password by PM if anyone is interested in killing some time.

Did you see any cassowaries? They are quite rare, aren't they?

damn me

Only a few hundred cassowaries left, I think, we saw 3, all in zoos, despite going places they could be sometimes seen in the wild. No luck spotting wild dingoes either, and they were supposed to be common on Fraser Island.

Think our guide said about 20 species of trees have seeds that don't germinate unless a cassowary eats it first.

oh, when the cassowary kicks, its kinda velociraptor-ish - you tend to lose your guts

also, drop bears will attack and kidnap your women unless they wear floppy hats

I remember that the first Wombat, Kangaroo and Emu I saw in Australia were all roadkill.

I was lucky to see a platypus in the wild on the Murray river though.

No, but guns are basically illegal in Australia.

It was in the river playing about, and we were on a paddle steamer - perfectly safe.

Is Cassowaries the australian pronounciation of 'Case of worries'?

So when Aussies say "No worries", they actually mean there's no Cassowaries about?

Good to know in downtown Sydney.

Two Uluru, one from afar, the second was taken at dawn where Venom once took a nap. The other two are from the Blue Mountains. One with an introduced species of primitive primates, the other was just a hole in the canopy that framed a tree clinging to a cliffside. Hat picture was our guide at sunrise, Uluru.
