I completed Oblivion yesterday.

The main quest, the arena questlines, the mage guild questlines, the dark brotherhood questlines, the thieves guild questlines, and the fighters guild questlines.

I never finished the guild quest, had some review games to do and lost track.

I couldn't find the corect spell to open the city in the mage guild quest, I had the fire and ice, and the drain, couldn't figure out what spell to use in the three spot.

Had some fun last night with my breton sorceror. He's at lvl 20 now, with his main emphasis on conjuration. I have a daedroth summon which can pretty much kick anything's ass.

So far i have played him as a goody, and in a fairly typical scenario i came into Cheydinhal after a dungeon crawl and went to a random shop to shift some loot. Unfortunately as i went to charm the shopkeeper to secure the best bargaining position for my loot i cast the wrong spell and zapped her. Suddenly it all kicked off as the shopkeeper and her friends attacked me and then the guards turned up.

Well i thought fuck you and summoned my daedroth and between us we cleaned house of two civilians and three guards. I was a bit surprised by this, i seem to recall hearing the guards were 10 levels higher than the player?

Anyway oh noes, now i had a bounty of a few thousand plus. I looted the bodies and went outside and some more guards attacked. I killed them too and in a bit of a minor rampage killed several other guards in the city. I love the way random civilians often join in an help you fight the guards, i guess the spirit of public protest is alive and kicking in Tamriel. Unfortunately this brought me a bounty of about 10k septims.

Well then i had a brainwave and thought if i joined the thieves guild i could use their bounty reducing facility to bring things under control. So i toddled off to the capital to start that quest but of course the bloody guards would not leave me alone and i ended up killing another guard. In exasperation i decided to turn myself in and just pay the fine. I didn't count for the fact that when the bounty is too high you can't just pay it off you have to do the time, so with a heavy heart i went to jail.

In jail i remembered doing the time would lead to skill loss so i thought screw this, and using my wizardly skills i broke out of jail, killed the jailer and escaped into the city again. Subsequently this led to a 6 on 1 battle in the prison environs which ended with all the guards dead apart form one captain who was obviosuly some ques tcharacter and thus unkillable. My bounty was now over 17000 septims.

Finally i realised my life would be a misery unless i did the hard time, so i turned myself in again and this time took the 171 days in jail. I lost about 8 skill points total but luckily all in pretty inconsequential skills such as acrobatics and athletics so it was no great shakes.

All in all this rampage gained me many skill points in my prime skills, a fair bit of cash and about 20 Infamy, all for a few measly skill points in minor skills. On that basis I may try for 100k bounty some time.

Actually i was wondering, does anyone know if the dead guards stay dead? It looked like it when i returned to Cheydinhal during the rampage, but i don't know if they respawn over game time...

Wow, what a mess

Named characters don't respawn, as long as the guards you killed were not named they'll do.

That would have been the intelligent option, true. But my brain was hotwired, i was a fugitive from justice, i panicked, bang.

I hit 100 conjuration last night. Now all of hell's servants are mine.

I don't think the guards have a lot of protection from Magic, so even though they are a lot of levels up on you, spells still ruin them.

well all the daedroth does is slap them with his hands so that doesn't explain it

It will run it, but not great. You will have to turn quite a few things off.

I would recommend "try before you buy" torrent in case it runs badly.

I am far beyond you and I turn things off.

The game is very eye-candy intense and uses a lot of graphics card processing power and RAM.

I have the same processor, AMD 2500+

What happens is you get massive lag at stupid points, like going through doors and moving around.

You also really need to shut down every few hours as the chip starts to really heat up.

I dug Oblivion out the other day and have been playing it non-stop since with a couple of characters.

My assassin character is just great fun. With only a bit of healing magic and the rest a pure assassin build it is terrific fun doing the Dark Brotherhood missions and having to be sneaky and clever to complete them.

I did the Whodunit mission yesterday which is a kind of Agatha Christie/Cluedo type thing. You're locked in a house with six other guests and you have to kill them all unobserved, using your wits to seperate them up and get them alone, while laughing at their increasing paranoia and fear as the body count rises. Brilliant fun.

Also got a sweet super-fast black assassin horsey now. Yay!

Acrobatics is brilliant at the higher skill level, it's like playing the game with Super Mario. I was bouncing around the rooftops yesterday while i made another daring escape from a hit. And closing Oblivion gates was pretty easy too, just running and jumping past all the daedra until i got to the sigil stone.

Remember that, I even replayed it a few times to see what happens if you kill them in a different order.

eurogamer gave it a mixed review, saying the quests weren't quite as imaginative as in oblivion, and the realm of madness wasn't all that mad. they still liked it simply for being more oblivion though.

IIRC go to the alter outside the necro cave that you were supposed to watch the making of black soul gems during the Acadamy storyline. On whichever Wed during the month at midnight that the beam of light comes from the sky tot he alter, put your soul gems in it and cast the trap soul spell of your choice. I believe they have to be the highest level soul gems and have to be empty. You then fill them with the souls of humanoids.

Oh, and I picked up the expansion, but I have not played much as it likes to crash using the newed 6800 drivers, and teh other 2 games I play like to crash using the 70 series drivers that Oblivion likes.

Bastard drivers.

I guess I could probably play it if I cranked the graphics to the lowest end of everything, but that kind of ruins the point of how cool the game looks and how well it runs!
