Wow, golly, wee, kids, it's EDUTAINMENT!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/hottopics/cl...ate_challenge/ Actually, this is a very challenging turn-based state-management game where you have to balance your popularity rating, your resources, your impact on the environment and (most opaquely) your finances with a limited array of possible policy intiatives, some of which lead to new options in the future. |

You were the most popular leader most voters could remember and aimed to please when selecting policies. Some critics said that you did so only to avoid tackling difficult issues, but their voices were drowned out by the crowd. \o/ ![]()

I'm amazed I was so popular considering the poor economic conditions.

I guess I'm spoiled by other games that simulate an economy, in that a surplus you tend to have during one turn tends to carry over and continue to increase in the next. Not in this one: implementing meat in vats apparently only provides a short-term 10 year boost to food supplies.
I also don't understand their emissions model. At one point I had -54 megatonnes of emissions projected for the turn. Next turn, I was projected as having an increase in emissions of 220 megatonnes. You'd think with the entire economy powered by advanced fusion, households powered by local wind turbine sand solar cells, and hydrogen fuel cell cars that emissions wouldn't suddenly jump the next year. But, they do. Despite that, though, it's fairly interesting. My best is a duplicate of Funko's screenshot above.

Fun, but not very realistic.
A side issue to the duration compression problem mentioned above is the last turn seems to determine your popularity. I ran at 100% popularity most of the game and introduced a number of unpopular measures (including the Carbon Police! ![]() I wish the game designers would not impose their political views on the game model. Many important innovations like going to Mars should give more future tech options. Hosting the Olympics is going to mean a huge influx of cash and infrastructure improvements like mass transit for my fair city. The game had negative cash, food, CO2 & water for the Olympics. Finally, there either needs to be more food options or more ways of controlling population growth. |

lowered taxes twice and imposed none, got a 2% wealth rating, 80ish environ and 100% popularity
so much for decreasing taxes to jumpstart the economy |

I'm guessing this isn't the most complex simulator. Economy bad! Environment good! Never the two shall meet.

I used this with my year 10 class last week.
Most of them got the idea pretty quickly but almost all of them got repeatedly voted out of office.

No matter how well I do on the economy, I always seem to get a shitty wealth score. It seems quite impossible to please the economists in this game.
