Post Free Game of the Week - Flash Element TD 2

Just over a year ago Flash Element Tower Defence was launched. 70 million plays later, the creators have quit their jobs and gone full time creating "casual" flash games for people to fill their work days with. Finally the sequel to Flash Element TD is out. You can play it here.

Another game from these creators, the Desktop Tower Defence, was a big favourite on Counterglow when it was game of the week. The difference with DTD was that your towers themselves formed the maze that the creeps ran through. Here, you're stuck with a fixed maze, but the twist is that you have to defend your elements, if the creeps steal them all, you're dead!

It was a tad easy I have to say, I beat it on the first go. Very straightforward upgrade options and strategy (basically only three to four towers are ultimately worthwhile).

Still, I do like the idea of a Tower Defense game oriented around points instead of rounds. The Dares and Double Dares make it much more interesting....

Here's another recent Tower Defence clone I've enjoyed:

I figure I must learn to spend tokens better... (in DD rather than upping bonus % point multiplier?)

do we have a group?

Yeah, the basic map is quite easy. The second level (if you register) is much harder, and to get good scores is harder still.

I thought my 90k was good, the best on the leaderboard is 370k odd.

If anyone else is registering we (or they) could create a Counterglow group. I think I've created the 2 groups I'm allowed.

Map 2 (Zig Zag) the record is 625,000. I haven't completed it yet after 3 goes.

It's not just a harder map, you also get harder creeps.

And more of them! I was so mad when level 49 failed to give me any tokens, it said "every 7 levels" right?

I need a detailed study about tower experience.
Is it worth it? Is it just me or selling and rebuying towers sounds much better?

I need a detailed study about whether it's better to do 3 Double Dares 8000 points each, but spend the money vs having an extra bonus multiplier and saving money.

And, what about double daring bosses and build no towers?

+ money/points from saving money (can be a lot if your multiplier is high and you are in the late stages of the game so rebuying everything is a lot of cash)
+ 8k points
- 1 elemental (= 5 tokens)
- bounty you would get from killing the boss

is there an end to the registered level? I get to the low 50's and crap out- I end up returning elements the last 15-20 levels.

I like chain guns and slow towers - the splash towers seem ok for reds, and I don't think there's any way to have enough sniper towers to handle the invisible guys, they just fire too slow. I don't seem to even build fire towers.

You can handle the invisible guys if you have enough normal firepower to take them out in the times they are visible.

I've got to the end of the second map, I think there are 59 levels.

The secret really is that you need to build up a stack of cash so that you can get the interest payments filling your coffers. This can be faster than you can make money from killing creeps.

in the basic map, after the first two experimental games I managed indeed to complete it 3 or 4 times without even ever getting a yellow token

I realised that selling price is exactly the sum you spent to buy the levels you got.
But if you sell during a round, you get 20% less.

It's true that once you top a tower exp, any further kills give no extra power.
But if you sell it and rebuild it the same level, you'll be even on money, and will have to rebuild the exp....

Yup. But you can select better towers for the incoming wave...

Selling towers is definitely a must after a DD (if you use that strategy) because otherwise it's overkill and you earn very little from savings.

So far, it doesn't seem to me exping towers is worth much, but I can be (and probably am) wrong.

Besides, the tips advise to upgrade a tower rather than buying new ones.
But:

Code:
	$	dmg	+d/$

Green	15	22	1,47
M1	12	37	1,25
M2	19	61	1,26
M3	31	101	1,29
M4	51	170	1,35
you get LESS bang for the bucks, incrementally at each upgrade!
You get a range increase as trade-off.

but you you buy 8 basic greens, without upgrading, placing them in two opposite rows of 4 on the sides of the lane:
$ 15*8=120 dmg 22*8=176
one M4 green costs $128 and fires dmg 170
The overlap and spread of the 8 range 50 towers somehow compensate the single range 70 M4.
With exp, the difference in range gets relartively less effective too.
The major down with 8 towers is that you'd need 8 times the kills to up the exp for all of them!

I'll try to analyse the other elements too, and the MK2 towers

Strange it did work for me a couple of days ago.

It's quite good, lots of towers and different upgrade paths.
Problem is, imo, the ant movement is somewhat random, sometimes they wander around with no reason and happy to be shoot, sometimes they all simultaneously run to a 'weak spot'.

This 'luck' factor annoys me to no end

Ah, yeah, I got it right before submitting one of the stupidest posts I was about to post!

well, let's say that so far I still have to get a real grasp on DD
so far I only used it for the 8k points, letting go almost all the creeps managing to barely kill those about to steal the marbles..... that is, losing out on the kills bounty and points

that is to say, I have just a minor overkill after a DD level

Poll:
WHICH creeps do you dare to DD, and which (if any) you consided unDDable?

gray and red seem to be easy for me to DD, and the yellows if you can slow them down

I'm actually starting to like the red towers for this reason

I just got a new top score by ignoring all the "money" and "interest" issues and pressing in as many double dares as I, er, dared. Tip: even if you die you get 8000 extra points for a double dare, so you there's no point in not having one on the final boss.
