A gold ion won't bond.

Rather, it will bond for a period on the order of nanoseconds until a spare charge can be found and the gold atom is released again.

Then again, neither are the noble gases.

You can make xenon hexafluoride if you put your mind to it...

You should have believed me when I told you that there's no earthly reason to carry around gold in your body.

Unless you're smuggling it that is...

A while back, my brother was asking me whether you could safely consume silver, and what the likely effects would be.

I gave him a word: "argyria".

It later became a plot device.

The only "real" medical use silver has that I know of is in prescription burn creams, but there could be other uses that I am unaware of.

I had eaten gold once.
It was in a fancy-uppity vegetarian restaurant, one of the entries was a 2-inch cube of rice and diced vedg, with a goldleaf askew on top of it.

Gold can form complexes...you can (theoretically) stick stuff to it. Aqua regis can dissolve gold because it forms the nitronium ion.
