whats the problem? EVryone thinks its great and heartwarming that Des O'Connor spawned at 72, and there are plenty of older men becoming fathers all the time and no one bats an eyelid. There is a massive prejudice against older mothers, but they are no more likely to be bad mothers than anyone else, and a lot of us will lose our parents before they hit retirement so I don't think that age should be a factor. The doctors say the woman was in full health so good luck to her.

On the other hand, one of the twins was stillborn.

How about the fact that the children are massively more likely to be born with birth defects or be stillborn?

i.e. prejudice my ass. It's the woman that carries the baby to term and it's thus the woman who needs to be in better health. If it was simply a donated ovum there wouldn't be as much of a problem...

Actually, I often wonder about the wisdom of 60 year old fathers, or even 50 for that matter. Junior is about to enter Uni about the time you are due to kick the bucket, and that is if you become a father at 50.

There's bad luck and losing a parent young, and then there's bad planning and massive egos who need to be stoked. The more I think about it, the more I think you should need to be licensed to be a parent, and it should be revoked at 40.

There are things you don't even think to ask your parents until you're much older.

It would be nice if they were still around to answer them.

Just like to point out that I don't think it's great someone becoming a parent in their 60s 70s, and I don't care what sex they are.

I think it's awful. Whatever sex you are. Obviously it's more important how old the mother is because all the guy has to do is supply the sperm in the first place.

No they don't, but they do accept it was a natural occurance, not one science worked to deliberately produce.

Both the egg and sperm were donated in this case IIRC.

And even though the age of the mothers ovum is known to be a risk for birth defects....the older the age of the father, the the higher risk of schizophrenia.

PS. It'd be a lot less of a problem if medical science kept us fit and healthy in middle age as we were when younger. It's the 'not having enough energy to cope', and the 'risk of popping one's glogs' that constitute the main problems with elderly parents.

Although it's a bit off some here would already consider me over the hill
