Bye bye UKIP

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3715446.stm

Quote:
The UK Independence Party's largest donor says he will not provide funds for its General Election campaign.

The anti-EU party has pledged to fight almost every constituency at the general election expected in May.

But Paul Sykes, who has contributed 1.4m, thinks UKIP will achieve little more than unseat Eurosceptic Tory MPs.

The North Yorkshire businessman told BBC Radio 4: "Conservative Party policy on Europe is now moving in the right direction."

UKIP's would-be leader Robert Kilroy-Silk's declaration he wanted to "kill" the Tories is understood to have been the final straw for Mr Sykes, who has twice left the Conservative Party because of its policy on Europe.
Ok, maybe this doesn't mean the end of them, I'm torn. I obviously hate their policies, they seem to be mainly drawn from the worst part of the Tories but they did split the vote on the right... so... dunno!

I will step forward and fund them, with my money that I have.

My first priority is that they should have a descent lair, beneath a suitably sized volcano, and with at least one city-smiting ray gun hidden in the lake.

My second priority is that UKIP must have a good sized army of skeletal warriors, to defend the island with. Especially against Greeks.

Yup, that's Lord Goldsmith right there, the Party's founder.

And here, brave UKIP Party members defend the British Isles from a furriner.

In other words Mr Sykes feels he has successfully caused a lurch to the right by the tories and doesn't need to fund UKIP any more...

i can kind of understand their frustration at being pulled in two directions by the usa and eu, and seeming to get very little benefit from either really. We give a lot of money to the eu but what benefit does british joe bloggs see from that? it seems especially pointless when you consider that we ignore international politics these days anyway and just kiss american ass. We dont even have the euro ffs.

Isn't your economy cooking? Wouldn't Europe have something to do with that? Never let it be said that I am a fan of maroule or anything like that, but you simply can't but manage to do well with a large, stable market close by to interact with. I mean, not even Labour could f*ck that up.

Germany's making a spirited attempt at fucking it up, however.

that's just crazy talk. the economy can't grow indefinitely if other countries are stagnating or failing. British contributions to the the eu should help to provide a system in which we all benefit. And british joe bloggs does very bloody well out of eu handouts - the totally uncompetitive british farming industry would have collapsed many years previously if not for the generous subsidies applied to it.

whether we have the euro or not we can't pretend we're not part of the european economy and world economy. I like many people here i suspect, work for an international company. The number of people who work for companies not affected by global economc change dwindles all the time.
