Funko 28-01-2008 13:46:11

OK I went through and added everyone to my collective.

Fistandantilus 28-01-2008 14:13:51

I don't know what that means but it doesn't sound very nice, you damn Borg.

Funko 28-01-2008 14:25:32

It's basically adding you to my friends list.

If you go to the group, you can see everyone who's a member. Click on them to see their profile and click to add to your collective.

Kitsuki 28-01-2008 14:52:54

I have added everyone too.

MDA 28-01-2008 16:02:49

ah, didn't realize that wasn't automatic

MDA 28-01-2008 16:05:06

The first tower game there his pretty difficult in comparison. I only got as far as the UB Pro level, somewhere in the mid 30's.

I quit with the dares and actually used as many tokens as possible to pump my interest rate on the first map and finally broke 100k in the newer game.

Funko 28-01-2008 16:15:23

On the developers blog they said they thought making the basic level of this game so easy was a mistake.

LOL, I went for multiplier at first without ever daring to dare.
Only in my last game I grew partially confident enough to dare, and only then I managed to (barely) break 100k
:D
Tell me where I get it wrong:

+1 multiplier = 6 tokens = 3*2tk = 3 DD = 3*8k = 24kpoints

this means that to equalise the effect of 3 DD you should earn 24000$ interest in the remaining rounds...

Indeed, the interest rate stays fixed at 6%
The Multiplier tells how many points you get for each $ you got in interest

Cumulative Capital * 6% = 24k
Cumulative Capital = 400k

Even imagining that you renounce to blue towers between lev 8 and 14, you'd have 43 levels to sum up after the first boss (i.e. first available tokens): this makes an AVERAGE capital of 10k (!!!) over the rest of the game, to make up for choosing +1Multiplier instead of 3 DD....

Of course, you have to SURVIVE DDs....

a mistake because they underestimated the # of visitors who were contented to beat the game (i.e. complete 50 levels) and wouldn't come back just to increase their score.

It wasn't instead a mistake for CG, as indeed almost all of us went back several times to increase our score

Funko 28-01-2008 16:34:02

And you also have to save money to get interest so you can buy good enough towers to survive the later levels. (at least on map 2 you do).

MoSe 28-01-2008 16:39:02

even when I went for maximise savings and upping multiplier as I could, I barely managed to reach 9k$ occasionally, then I had indeed to spend a few to survive, don't even mention keeping a 10k$ average

Funko 28-01-2008 17:02:09

Yeah... maintaining 8k is about the best I've managed for multiple levels, and that takes a long time to build up to.

That is because we have a group of people who plays. The casual gamers don't care about getting a top score vs mr. unknown but we all know the shame of scoring less than Funko is something a CG member cannot bear :p

True, but score wise you are better off just burning out before completion. My scores are pretty high, but I haven't completed map 2...

Kitsuki 28-01-2008 21:41:53

PS - stop sneaking up on my score on map 1 Funko!

Yeah, but even then Scabby's first reaction was "that was too easy".

I found it easy and moved onto level 2, but I was already registered so that was ok for me.

Kitsuki: I nearly beat my score on level 2 and I died after about 30 levels.

MoSe 29-01-2008 11:36:54

On map1 I still just died DDing groupers on lev 43...

MoSe 29-01-2008 17:35:59

PPHHHHHTTT!!!!!

FIRST ATTEMPT on map 2
97,773
lost on level 53 or 55 or something (resistors?)

I was SURPRISED when at level 50 I only had 3 tokens left.
As if I didn't get my 10 after killing lev49 Boss!
Is it possible that you get your last tokens at lev42, and then nothing till 58-59???????
I'd have kept a few more for later....

So, I'm a dork on easy map1 so that I'm last and only with great effort I manage to tailgate the group
But on harder map2 at first attempt I beat Funko who I understand played it several times???

Kitsuki 29-01-2008 19:10:35

There are no tokens after 42 until the end - so you have to be VERY economical - either DDing and burning out early, or clinging on and returning tokens.

Funko 30-01-2008 11:37:27

OK I got 110k on map 2. 129k looks like a very good score indeed.

Funko 31-01-2008 15:35:59

3K behind you on map1. Into the top 100 (out of well over a million plays).

Yeah, you're very clearly not the only one caught out by this badly-written game instruction.

Funko 31-01-2008 15:58:51

195k

Kitsuki 31-01-2008 16:04:43

Mofo.

I will get to work beating that tonight once I have finished committees. :P

Funko 31-01-2008 16:28:59

I want to break 200k tomorrow.

For anyone else struggling: Splinter towers ftw.

MoSe 31-01-2008 16:50:39

ftw?

I never use them

MoSe 31-01-2008 16:54:16

Oh, wait, splinter, not Sniper
:o
splinter are the big fire ones, are they?

it's a big investment
I tried a few, but didn't figure out how much they actually helped
2 thereof all upped didn't save me against DD Resistors in the end game on map 1

Funko 31-01-2008 16:58:32

It's the midgame when they rule.

If you put one (unupgraded) at the beginning of the map after the 2nd boss you can DD a hell of a lot.

MDA 01-02-2008 12:22:14

I've been using the green and one cheap pink splash as long as I can, then adding an expensive pink splash, then picking up water towers, then picking up a chain gun - and I usually end the easy map with a fully upgraded splash tower and 4 or 5 upgraded chain guns. I stopped even using tokens for red and yellow.

Funko 01-02-2008 12:49:11

I get a red token after boss 2, and a yellow token after the second to last boss.

I don't bother with blues anymore.

I can't imagins how I could survive without.

As you said, range is important because the same tower can land in more shots when the critter is in the extra range.

The same, slowing the critters allows them to linger much longer under a tower's fire, for a similar and even greater effect.

I verified that the slowing effects by basic blues are cumulative, so that just two facing fully upped and exped thereof can stop some critters and make them backtrack, just like a much more expensive Glue Tower

Funko 01-02-2008 12:59:57

I only use Reds + Greens for most levels

the occasional big purple for the red creeps.

I also find I'm selling the majority of my towers between levels.

Splinter towers are the way forward. Seriously. They kick arse. (but remember they can take creeps down to 1 hit point, but not kill them).

Funko 01-02-2008 13:01:55

Blues cancel out fire and fire cancels out slow, so there's no point combining them.

Funko 01-02-2008 13:05:13

Sorry, that's not strictly correct. That only applies to the low level fire and slow towers. I believe the glue and splinter towers don't cancel each other out... need to verify...

Funko 01-02-2008 13:10:41

btw, in options, you can turn on gibbets mode and the creeps explode when they die.

MoSe 01-02-2008 13:17:17

meh, they just break apart like pots, and it's less visually evident when they die

Funko 01-02-2008 16:25:28

Let me just say this about a splinter tower

4800 dps when fully upgraded, for 3.8 seconds (which is almost the time it takes a creep to travel the full length of the level on the second map)

and it can be doing that amount of damage on every creep in the level. That's 20*4800 damage per second.

The purple tower upgraded does 1800 dps + splash.

MDA 01-02-2008 16:35:36

I guess it does enough damage even the resist creeps go down.

Funko 01-02-2008 16:44:24

they are a bitch, but they are slow, I tend to only Dare them, or sell my splinters and buy gattling guns to take them down.

That is the simple key to the game - you need to replace each level. :)

MDA 03-02-2008 01:09:16

ha, I hadn't realized they sell full price between levels - you'd only lose the experience, which isn't much - 5y range or splash per point

MoSe 04-02-2008 09:25:31

sorry but I keep missing the point
Selling between levels doesn't help your interest earning nor points, as those are tallied as a level ends

That only would help if on next level you'd need less and/or cheaper towers than the level before.

as Fist said, if you spend all your money in towers to survive a DD level and get the 8k points, but then don't dare the next one, you can sell the excess towers as you can survive with less on a not-DD, and capitalize on the money.

Barring the above:
"Replace each level"
????
what for???????

I sell an all-upped arrow tower: I get back 128$
I replace it with an all-upped arrow tower: I spend the same money.
Result: I have the same money as if I hadn't done nothing, and I lost the experience.

alternative: replace oblsolete with more powerful ones
I replace 3 or 4 all-upped arrows
I can spend 384 or 512
This grants me one Chain or Jet tower, entry level
I haven't the tables offhand, but I doubt the trade gives you any advantage
or I replace 6 all-upped arrows for an entry level Splinter
Worth considering once in a while... but...

"EACH level" ???????????????????????

Kitsuki 04-02-2008 10:01:28

As in to better tailor it for the next level. You keep your gold if you are selling between levels, you only lose experience, which has a minimal effect. You need to place the right towers for each kind of threat.

I only have a few cannon towers on corners that I keep throughout the game for their experience. Most others are sold in between every level.

and/or a different mix of towers to deal with different creeps which have different strenghts.

It doesn't make sense selling a tower if you want one of the same type in the same place for the next level, of course not.

Funko 05-02-2008 12:13:26

198k. Bah.

Kitsuki 07-02-2008 20:53:59

209k - back on top of most maps! :D

Funko 08-02-2008 08:48:20

Most = 2?

You motherfucker. I'm going to have to play again now.

Kitsuki 08-02-2008 13:43:24

That should have been both. :)

It took me about 20 shots to beat your score....

Funko 08-02-2008 13:58:11

Did you change strategy at all?
