Free Game of the Week - Actually, a bunch

There's been a huge trend towards games based on using your mouse to draw walls recently, and they're all fairly fun. Also, my usual principle of rewarding innovation is pushed aside a bit since I've got no idea which was first.

The draw-your-own-platformer:

http://www.gamegecko.com/drawplay.php

Possibly the original, not actually a game in the usual sense:

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40255643/

The Ball dropping, incredible machines style game:

http://www.claxor.com/pages/play.php?id=6

And the lemmings clone:

http://www.miniclip.com/games/scribble/en/

Now don't complain about not having enough stuff to play with over the next week.

You limited it before, when I gave one midweek. Limit yourself too!

If I pick one of them (tentatively, Paintball), the rest are never going to be postable as they would be derivatives. This is the best solution, believe me.

King_Ghidra 21-11-2006 11:36:28

when i try that deviantart one, the little man just seems to fall into space, no matter what i draw

maroule 21-11-2006 11:38:11

I guess you push pixel to suicide

That's the deviant part.

JM

King_Ghidra 21-11-2006 11:40:30

the claxor one is fun

Funko 21-11-2006 11:45:07

I made him do a really good sled jump and then crash, but he didn't fall through space.

King_Ghidra 21-11-2006 11:55:57

ah i got it working now, what i did wrong was draw my line right to left, which meant it was the roof not the floor

JM^3 21-11-2006 11:58:36

lol, important for architects everywhere

So Venom infected you with the "Instructions are for pussies" disease?

King_Ghidra 21-11-2006 12:01:59

:D pretty much. I thought something that simple would be intuitive. my bad.

i mean, why do you need a roof in this game anyway? that's overdesign

JM^3 21-11-2006 12:02:37

Actually, I think all men have this disease. I only read video game instructions in the period of time between when I buy the game and when I can start playing it.

JM

Funko 21-11-2006 12:02:50

For loop the loops...

King_Ghidra 21-11-2006 12:08:21

you need a roof for that?

Funko 21-11-2006 12:09:02

Actually no.... but now I want to make a jump that jumps him into the roof.

Funko 21-11-2006 12:11:16

Right... if you don't draw things like a roof he'll fly straight through them instead of crashing.

Scabrous Birdseed 21-11-2006 12:12:55

Here's a level I just made for the Claxor game:

Birdseed,Smooth|46,41|395,250|18,50,415,323|65,17, 138,107|46,190,296,-5|382,129,-38,54|204,123,52,-66|344,183,-129,169|213,352,-133,3|80,355,61,-78|42,192,-61,77|448,37,39,-57|526,75,52,-77|482,179,187,-6|510,276,-76,96|50,276,-56,2|

I think LineRider is the original of this batch. It's good. I like to draw one line to put the rider into a spin, and then listen to The Postal Service as he slowly somersaults an endless white fall through space.

Nice.

I think the trouble with that game is that it is hard to make a level which is difficult without being impossible. Especially difficult in a way other than "ooh, the ball has to go uphill".

Debaser 22-11-2006 05:04:32

This is impressive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SVMFCZgvNM

Immortal Wombat 22-11-2006 08:08:42

zomg, hax

JM^3 22-11-2006 08:13:16

King_Ghidra 22-11-2006 09:12:36

ok that was sick

Nav 22-11-2006 15:03:41

not done with the version you can play online though.. new version coming soon apparently.

King_Ghidra 22-11-2006 15:18:40

I'm addicted to it

Funko 22-11-2006 15:21:01

Yeah, I couldn't see how to do straight lines or expand the area on the online version.

If you read all that bumph at the bottom the the screen it says something about how the downloadable version lets you draw curves and scale the screen etc

The more I watch that video, the more I'm convinced it was done with a proper animation program. Some of the flips just seem a little contrived when I see how easily my little guys fall off their sledge. This could just be jealousy mind...

Funko 23-11-2006 08:52:15

I think someone spent an insane amount of time on it.

to 'expand the area' you just scroll the screen with the hand tool

i think it's pretty much unlimited from stuff i have tried

according to that, [theoretically, almost] every man wants pussies so every man should be begging to get instructions....

:hmm:

Tizzy 24-11-2006 09:44:09

A lot of men need instructions for pussies.

Fistandantilus 24-11-2006 11:16:25

- FACT

MoSe 24-11-2006 12:09:09

speaking of which, at my first attempt I made one who gets unexpectedly impaled and agonizes in twitches
