Hmm, have the first two (exactly), but only a ATI 9600 graphics card.

Fistandantilus 05-03-2006 20:42:04

ATI 9600 is supported, it's the same graphic card I have...
But you'll probably have to accept a slower framerate or other similar 'dumbed down' graphics. Got to play with the settings a bit and see if it's acceptable.

King_Ghidra 06-03-2006 11:06:15

i have the week after release off work, we'll call that oblivion week

MDA 07-03-2006 17:39:39

NO CLIFF RACERS IN THIS GAME!!!!

best news I've heard yet

Diss 07-03-2006 21:19:10

aww come on. They add challenge to the game. :). Okay just kidding. That's the best part about Solstheim was no cliff racers. Of course that made it easy. As I usually just levitated over everything when travelling. :D

Fistandantilus 08-03-2006 16:27:59

Unfortunately levitation is out of the game ;)

MDA 08-03-2006 20:02:54

but horses are back :)

Sir Penguin 09-03-2006 03:49:44

I can hardly wait to steal somebody's horse.

SP

Darkstar 09-03-2006 04:16:35

GTA: Oblivion?

MDA 09-03-2006 11:42:29

Is that a horse between your legs, or...

MDA 21-03-2006 04:50:33

Going hunting for this tomorrow :)

Asher 21-03-2006 22:56:33

Get the X360 version, SP. ;) Much cheaper than buying a PC that can run this beast.

The X360 version even looks better; you can't enable both HDR lighting and antialiasing on PCs, and X360 supports it by default.

Asher 21-03-2006 22:57:03

Alas, no one here has the game yet. Future Shop says thursday at the earliest...

maroule 22-03-2006 08:25:16

I'll get the 360 too, when it comes out in France next week
just got the new ghost recon, couldn't really play it yet, don't have gaming time :(

the (oblivion) combat system looks a bit irritating, though

MDA 22-03-2006 11:50:11

supposed to have been on sale at CompUSA for cheap yesterday, but they didn't even have a tagged spot on the shelves for it. :(

Nevermind that it was in their Sunday ad as being on sale yesterday for 39.99

yeah but it means using a damn controller...i'm a console whore for the right kind of games but i think i'd need to play oblivion on 360 to be convinced that the controls felt natural

also i'm always conscious of the possibilities of the modding community and suchlike on the pc versions

Venom 22-03-2006 14:04:59

Damn. I'm just like KG. I love the hell out of sports games and platformers on consoles but the PC control scheme is critical and better for shooters and RPGs.

Plus modding is awesome. Hot Coffee FTW!

maroule 22-03-2006 14:55:25

all true
but it still depends on your gear
PC can't come close to a 82" (or bigger) flat screen HDTV visual impact, and it becomes worth sacrificing the more precise PC keybord/mouse controls.

Venom 22-03-2006 14:56:43

That is true. I would like to try the 360 HD capabilities on my TV.

if you have an 82 inch flat screen HDTV i am going to kill myself now

maroule 22-03-2006 15:34:19

that might be a good enough incentive for me to take a picture of it tonight (provided you take a picture of your suicide)

King_Ghidra 22-03-2006 15:43:07

oh you son of a bitch

Venom 22-03-2006 15:48:59

He doesn't have an 82" flat screen. 70" maybe. But not 82"

King_Ghidra 22-03-2006 15:49:46

i didn't think they were commerically available yet, though i've seen some pics of one at a trade show

http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/images/bigtv.jpg

King_Ghidra 22-03-2006 15:50:10

he probably means 82 cm, damn frenchie

Venom 22-03-2006 15:54:28

God damn metric system.

maroule 22-03-2006 16:01:56

yeah, except if these are chinese hobbits, my TV is much smaller

maroule 22-03-2006 16:04:15

I just checked, I got completely confused, it's 42" or 106 cm

considering how much more reasonnable the prices have got, I was wondering why KG felt so jealous...

Venom 22-03-2006 16:06:45

I don't think even "completely confused" covers it. You went retarded. Again. Some more.

maroule 22-03-2006 16:10:21

yes, I belong here

Fistandantilus 22-03-2006 18:06:39

From the elder scroll board:

Quote:

Ok, I am running to go to a village, and I catch up to a guard on his horse. I run past him, and about a minute later, a random guy attacks me! He is too powerfull for just me too take out, so I run back and find the guard on the horse. He dismounts and helps me defeat the enemy. Then, I run over to his horse and steal it!
:D

MDA 22-03-2006 18:43:56

GTH:Vice Cyrodil

Sir Penguin 22-03-2006 20:29:33

I think this is bound to end up a comedy game. The Radiant AI sounds hilarious. :D

Alas, HDTV + Xbox 360 is out of my price range, and so is a new computer. I'll have to get a job or something.

SP

Darkstar 22-03-2006 20:31:51

Did you quit your old job?

Asher 22-03-2006 20:54:41

The best part of Oblivion (and Call of Duty 2) is the immersiveness. Playing on a bigscreen HDTV with a home theatre with a floor-shaking subwoofer ain't the same as playing on a computer with a 19" LCD.

Nevermind that the X360 version looks better.

Asher 22-03-2006 20:56:14

And as someone who played Morrowind on the PC (my PC was topend then) and now Oblivion on the 360, I actualy think the 360 controller works better.

Reading the Oblivion board, lots of PC gamers are upset with the interface and call it a "console port".

That wasn't a real job.

Is it true that there's no mini map in Oblivion? I remember I couldn't find the map in Morrowind for more than half the game. It was hell, I had to restart because I got lost and couldn't find my way to civilisation.

SP

Asher 23-03-2006 03:25:02

There are several types of maps (dungeon map, world map) in the game.

Sir Penguin 23-03-2006 05:02:08

Excellent.

SP

JM^3 23-03-2006 06:29:18

when you press tab you get access to 4 areas

one that has your stats and info on it

one that has items and the like

one that has magic spells and the like

and one that has maps and journal

there is a main map, and a local map

I don't know whether there is some other map overlay that you can bring up

I am Natasha, a Redguard swordswoman

Although I think I want to be good at talking also

I picked illusion and restoration magic to go into, but haven't used illusion yet (I use light armor)

despite the fact that there seems to be a lot for evil players (murders to be done, goods to be stolen, etc), I am playing good

I do like the sneak stuff though, so I think I am going to play a theif catcher or something (I am trying to find a painting right now)

JM

JM^3 23-03-2006 06:29:50

Oh, and my sign in the Lady

but I haven't had the attack be successful yet

JM

Asher 23-03-2006 06:55:17

I am Asher, a Nord Assassin/Thief.

Pretty awesome so far.

I'm in the Thieves Guild, and also just completed an initiation into the Dark Brotherhood by committing murder. Now I'm a hitman.
