GTA San Andreas

I finish work in an hour and a half, should I buy this on my way home? Anyone got it yet?

My brother has described it as "the most hip hop game ever made". I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not...

Scabrous Birdseed 31-10-2004 14:45:40

The soundtrack looks like it's the shit.

Debaser 31-10-2004 15:55:35

I think I'm going to buy it, if only for the ability to perform drive-bys from a BMX.

Debaser 31-10-2004 16:34:16

Fucking little chav kid who was working in Blockbuster told me that they only had pre-ordered copies left, but he'd sell me one of them for 55! I then asked someone else if they'd sold out and he said no, they had loads of copies.

Fucking pikeys!!!

No longer Trippin 31-10-2004 19:20:40

My friend grabbed the last copy from best buy the day it came out. Played it a bit... will get it when it comes out on the PC as I hate console controllers immensly.

Nav 01-11-2004 12:48:48

Just ordered it online for 29.99. Being sent second class so I still get some time to finish some work before it arrives!

Debaser 01-11-2004 12:54:52

I paid 37.99, but it's worth every penny. The levels are fucking enormous (well, the first one is). I predict that within one month KG will be speaking almost entirely in dialogue from the game.

protein 01-11-2004 13:19:03

Oh damn. I'm going to have to get this then.

Debaser 01-11-2004 13:20:17

You didn't need the next 3 months of your life anyway...

protein 01-11-2004 13:27:36

Where did you get it? I'm going into town in a minute.

i really don't know if that is some kind of backhanded compliment or an insult

unfortunately, it may be a way off because i have decided not to buy it until i am back at the parents' house at which point i will be without internet access for a little while and will really need all the distractions available to me

It's not either really, I just think you'll love it. From the very first second you're immersed in an early 90's G-funk era hip hop video. It's fucking great.

Deacon 01-11-2004 23:19:06

Having bought the PC ports of 3 and VC, I plan to get San Andreas when the PC version comes out. From what I've seen on TV and online about the game, it sounds like more of the same, plus enhancements to to game to allow new capabilities. Obviously the artwork, missions, sounds, voices, etc. will be new. Hopefully the cars will remain easy to control. One thing that can really hurt a game with cars is lack of steering responsiveness. True Crime in particular has a huge map with lots of places to go, but the driving experience is inferior compared to GTA 3.

Nav 05-11-2004 11:54:25

Handling of cars is brilliant as ever, the new physics engine makes for some spectacular crashes and makes it feel more realistic.

This morning I was bombing downhill on a mountain bike doing massive jumps off the hills what fun..

This game can still be the most annoying game ever especially when you narrowly fail a mission and have to start the whole process over again.....

protein 05-11-2004 12:34:16

But thankfully you can take out your anger on innocent people. I like finding helpless old people and continually beating them until they are in a pool of blood.

Nav 05-11-2004 13:07:39

the new stealth kill is fun and gratifyingly graphic.

I edited that for you.

Any soundtrack with Guns and Roses is ass.

King_Ghidra 05-11-2004 16:19:10

heresy!! heresy!

Funkodrom 05-11-2004 16:28:35

I think they spell it Hear*Say

HelloKitty 05-11-2004 16:45:36

Most overrated crap band ever. Celine Dion looks good next to them.

Deacon 05-11-2004 23:36:28

They're not the only thing on the soundtrack. I read at Gamespot that there's also a country station. Some Willie Nelson, some Conway Twitty, some Tammy Wynette, some Dolly Parton. I'm just guessing. :)

Guns & Roses shot their wad by 1993. It would be easy for me to call them a case of wasted talent, but I think that after they got a few albums out, there was nothing more to say. I liked the big radio hits from Appetite, Lies, and Use 1&2.

It's too bad there hasn't been a GTA 1970s game. Thow in the rock, the disco, the jazz, the funk, etc. I think the GTA guys did a good enough job with the 80s game, choosing the Totos and the Halls & Oates, but staying away from the Wingers and Cinderellas, that they should be able to get a tasteful selection from the 70s.

protein 10-11-2004 01:25:25

I was thinking that their next move could be the 70s. The music and visual possibilities are endless. Plus you get the 70s pimps, the 1970s space age futuristic films and the flares, the disco dancing, the 70s cars... oh man it would be awesome.

San Andreas is awesome though. This evening I stole a jet plane and went as high as I could before bailing out, freefalling for a while and then parachuting to a safe landing ontop of a moving car. Absolutely brilliant!

Before I got to the plane stage I was absolutely creaming myself when I disovered that you can motorbike to the top of the mountain, put on a parachute and base jump off the edge. Such detail!

Some of the music is unbearable though. Well, if I'm honest I only like about five of the tracks and two of them are because they are so crap they are funny.

Debaser 10-11-2004 11:27:41

You can steal planes right from the begining. I've wasted hours trying to crash that little Lear Jet into the front door of the Johnson house (done it now). I've also landed on the Vegas strip when that part of the map was wasn't unlocked, and done the same thing in that weird plane graveyard place near that Grand Canyon-type place.

BigGameHunter 13-11-2004 18:59:46

I still haven't gotten out of the first city in the first GTA game.
:(
I'm pathetic, I know...but I just can't seem to shoot all those guys on that ship.

The good news...VC and SA will be very cheap by the time my lame ass gets around to buying them!

Deacon 13-11-2004 19:22:25

That sniper mission is impossible on consoles, IMO. Supposedly the nearby adrenaline pill helps, but I don't need it on the PC.

fp 13-11-2004 19:51:44

I completed the sniper mission on my PS2, although it did take me 3 or 4 tries. It was almost insultingly easy on the PC version, though.

The mission I had most trouble with in GTAIII was the one where you have to kill the mafia godfather. Blocking off the entrance to his mansion, dodging all his henchman, blowing up his car and escaping without getting arrested took me about 20 tries. :tizzy:

Deacon 14-11-2004 07:00:46

A stolen bus or fire truck was what I used to block off the entrance. When the arrow got close, I started throwing grenades over it. As for making it out of the area, I went downhill all the way to 8-ball's and used the nearby tunnel. Mission success should wipe out your stars.

The Porn Van and Turismo missions in GTA3 were almost undoable. "Grand Theft Auto" seemed to vary in difficulty. One session, I did it in one try not long after waking up. Another session, it took many tries.

King_Ghidra 15-11-2004 16:10:49

brilliant game, doing pretty well so far, just won some gang turf for my gang and i can recruit people now too.

One mission is really pissing me off though, you have to drive a motorbike while big smoke sits on the back and shoots at some guys on a train.

no matter how close i stick to the train the fat fool can never shoot all four guys before the train eventually gets away - i've tried it about 5 times so far and it's driving me nuts

Debaser 15-11-2004 16:14:19

Stay as far wide of the train as you can (so Smoke can shoot from a shallower angle) and he'll get them all eventually. Don't worry about being shot at 'cos they hardly do any damage.

Nav 15-11-2004 17:14:13

Funny I did that one first time! ;)

Most of the really difficult ones involve trying to use the analog stick to aim and shoot. f-ing annoying.. :bash:

Nav 22-11-2004 12:24:45

Yesterday I discovered you could mod your cars and add Nitrous! wheeeeeeeeee! (I've finally got into Las Ventura as well.)

brilliant.

protein 22-11-2004 12:29:58

I seem to be stuck. I need to impress one chick enough to get a passcode from her to rob a casino. Unfortunately she's never in and I seem to be doing the old turf war missions again. Whenever I load it up I just end up flying around in the harrier jump jet dog-fighting with the army jets.

Nav 22-11-2004 13:58:21

thanks for giving that away. bastard!

There's a very good guide (not cheats) here

protein 23-11-2004 00:35:52

Have you guys come across "maccer" yet?

Debaser 23-11-2004 00:43:40

protein 23-11-2004 01:09:07

I won't spoil it then. He's the best character in the game by miles.

cheers, worked a treat

once i finished that i went to the club, Alhambra? and did a couple of the bemani type missions and then i went and stopped the ballaz trying to attack our crib.

Failed two missions last night, the 3rd OG mission where you have to steal one of mad dogg's cars - that was down to my crappy driving but i can see i can complete it, and also the 3rd BS mission where you have to fight the russians and escape the truck and some bikes chasing you while you do the operation wolf-type shooting. That one is going to piss me off, as nav was saying those type of missions are a real pain in the butt

my guy is still ripped from working out, but i think i might have to make him wear some more clothes to boost his sex appeal - so far i'vew only seen shops for hoodies and jeans and sportswear and stuff, does anyone know if there is a clothes shop where i can buy a suit or a fur coat or some other ghetto fabulous outfits?

I thought that was a cool mission. It was like being in Terminator 2 (especially if you time it so you can listen to Welcome To The Jungle at the same time).

protein 23-11-2004 23:03:52

There's a shop in the third bit that has really, really stupidly expensive clothing. I think it's called Victim. I bought a $5,000 gold chain there.

King_Ghidra 24-11-2004 09:00:05

that sounds more like it!

i did that 3rd OG mission yesterday where you have to steal the chauffeurs car and dump Madd Dogg and his girl off the end of the pier. Great fun.

King_Ghidra 29-11-2004 10:18:56

I completed the mission that was pissing me off and then i also finished all the other missions available until i was left with only the slick missions again. Did the 'reuniting the families' one, which also featured an annoying operation wolf bit, and am now on the one where

*SPOILERS*

you see big smoke and ryder and it looks like they're in league with the cops and the ballaz. then you have to go and help out sweet on the freeway, but i've failed that twice now, it's taking me too long to get to him. First time i got there but he was so low on health he died during the shootout. I'll give it another go tonight.

Starting the turf wars is fun, i got hold of the ak this weekend which r0xx0rs.

BigGameHunter 29-11-2004 21:18:14

I knew you'd be the first to talk about the dress up angle of the game.

Let down your mask. We all love you here.

Darkstar 29-11-2004 21:23:39

Sounds like someone is trying to get a date...

BigGameHunter 29-11-2004 21:38:27

God knows I could use one.
I don't know if KG is my type though...I like them clean shaven. I think.

Darkstar 29-11-2004 21:53:50

Been so long, you've forgotten? Poor guy!

King_Ghidra 30-11-2004 09:17:01

*ahem* back to the topic...

did the final 'first chapter' mission last night and got my ass thrown out of los santos

did the snitch assassination mission, the four catalina robbery missions, the combine harvester mission and am now failing miserably at the go ze mui mission. because of the goddamn terrain even though i'm winning the race i keep falling off fucking cliffs or driving into rivers by accident. Very annoying but i will crack it.

Nav 30-11-2004 16:17:24

just discovered a fun and unexpected little sub game in the desert near Las Venuras (its two player too). I won't give it away, but it gives you another fun bashing weapon.

King_Ghidra 01-12-2004 10:06:02

completed the stupid race, and the follow-up in the reverse direction (after several attempts - i kept flipping my car or dropping it in the drink)

because the races were making me mad i went back to los santos and tried to seal the deal with denise, but jesus is progress slow, i'm not sure i have the patience for it (much as i enjoy taking her for drive-bys)

final thing i did last night was fail my first attempt at the mission where you have to torch all the truth's weed. just ran out of time before i could take the chopper down.

TV4Fun 04-12-2004 09:54:45

This is a completely free bump, and no money has changed hands whatever.
