Was there ever a better band?

Crooked Rain used to be my favourite album when I was about 17. One day I foolishly let a girl I didn't know borrow it (she was very foxy). That was the last I saw (or heard) of both her and the album.

Well, until today, when I decided to download it. it's just as amazing as it seemed at the time, certainly putting every other Pavement/Steven Malkmus album to shame. I particularly like Gold Soundz and Texas Never Whispers.

Anyone else like Pavement?

Never really listened to them.

Stop giving stuff to foxy girls. First that t-shirt now this.

You couldn't afford it, not that it is for sale.

I've never gieven pavement much of a listen. Thinking about branching into The Flaming lips though

The Flaming Lips are cool. Especially if you can get any of the Japanese versions of their albums. The singer speaks Japanese and sometimes re-records whole tracks with Jap vocals.

I like Pavement especially "Brighten the Corners". On the other side I like "Wowee Zowee" as an album title.

Saw The Flaming Lips at Reading maybe 4 or 5 years back, bought album on basis of that..liked it.
Gotta say the latest one is a lot harder to get into....but once you do it seems more like a soundtrack kind of thing (i'm thinking like flash gordon etc) It's nice to have a weird story behind the music.

They are my little brother's favourite band (the lips) I like their new video.

Again, I can't say that I have heard a lot of their stuff...any recommendations?

I just borrowed 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' from a cowie. Fascinating and really charming album. I suppose the best way i could describe it is as somewhere between Mercury Rev and Air. I intend to borrow as many other Flaming Lips albums as my cowie owns, I really like their sound.

I heard my brothers copy once. Did sound good but requires further listening I think.

Shock Horror, I'm growing to like them as well. I used to think they weren't 'ard enough, bloody soft-shelled big girl's blouses the lot of 'em, but then I heard The Hidden Cameras and I realised they were the bloody Crays by comparison. :cute:

Er, not quite, but I started off thinking of them as lacking stature and gravitas with their quite fluffed-up pop but slowly started to appreciate the subtler side of their material, eventually finding the anthemic qualities too.

If I'm not mistaken I have listened to some songs by Pavement and liked them. Can't remember them now, just the overall musical "atmosphaire".

Terror Twilight has a lot of good tracks on it. Not too keen on their other albums though.
