the hard part of this character is of course the fact that it is hard to beat up a white icky thing at level 6

currently I once more have a guy at level 6

so now I am trying to find another wand of magic missle

I wandered over to another town, and while they have very nice stuff (Some stuff worth 100000), I only have 1000 and they have no wands of magic missle

but I could get a quarter staff (I just don't know if I got it if my offence would be worth anything)

anybody have any advice for a newby?

No-one seems to give a shit about Zangband.

there are some old threads here about it

ok, I don't know how to do this

can't I just print of the settings??

I tried renaming the save to txt and attaching it, but it said it was too big

PM Qaj -- he was sending those things out all the time.

Not ALL the time, every three weeks or so. It got to be a little tedious.

could you tell me how ot do this?

Create a character, save the game, find the "save" directory, then zip the file and stick it on a website (I used cheesy Geocities for that, [url=http://www.geocities.com/qaj_stars/chal.html]) The basic rules are: don't cheat (it works on the honor system), don't change the "taboo" game settings (like switching monster "AI" off), and certainly, don't restore a saved backup in case of death - you may only restore the original challenge file (ie. from CLevel 1, turn 1). The only save you were allowed to make and keep was after changing the allowable settings. But as soon as you move, you lose your ability to save for anything other than "Save and Exit".

Then I gave everyone two weeks to get as far in the game as possible. They had to post a character dump (between CODE tags to make the font revert to a non-proportioal font for easy reading) before the specified deadline (which I was ruthless in enforcing :) ) in order to qualify.

For scoring I used the hideously complex method of using the highest character level of all dumps a particular challenger made, thus it was possible to post three or four times and use your best score. In the case of a tie, the tie was broken using a subjective evaluation of other factors, like stats and equipment.

Then a few weeks later another round. And so on.

I'm kind of burned out on Angband right now though, and ZAngband's recent changes (new wilderness method as a primary example) haven't inspired me to get back into it. Perhaps when a better questing facility becomes available...
