Is this going to be made or is it just rumour?

I heard there's going to be a woman playing the "bad guy" this time?

Apparently it's nearing end of production - Arnie reprises his role as himself in Leather. I read a really bad article about the filming in Empire last month.
It's not being directed by James Cameron as he didn't feel another sequel would make sense. Can't remember who is directing it though.

Rodgers

Yes - it does seem a little TOO contrived to try and squeeze out a third one.

Terminator from the future sent back to kill bird to prevent future human hero. Fails. Future safe.

Oh no it's not. Further forward in the Future Ferminator from the Future sent back later to kill young human becoming future human hero. Future self sends back Terminator to prevent Future Terminator killing self, to prevent self sending back Terminator to save self. Terminator succeeds, Further forward Future Terminator fails, future is safe.

Or is it?

Repeat above but add in a few more future paradoxes and more shots of Arnie in Leather not saying much.

Jonathan Mostow is directing. He directed U-571.

Nick Stahl is the John Connor character. Claire Danes is in it.

Why wouldn't a sequel make sense? Two things:

* Cyberdyne keeps off site backups, unknown to it's staff.

* The future with Skynet is the default future without any time travel interference.

However, I think it's all just a ploy to get a woman playing a Terminator. And who's going to believe a 55 year old Terminator, anyway?

All tech companies of any large status, especially defense contractors, would keep off site backups.

The only problem with T2 is that it presumes that they don't change the future... unlike it's ending, which is meant to imply the can and did.

Rodgers

OK - maybe it isnt entirely contrived that a third one COULD be made given the possibility of off site bacups etc but the first two have been great - the law of diminishing returns is bound to set in eventually - why risk it? (how long until there is a Terminator TV Series??)

FunkyFingers

The "Extended directors cut" of T2, which is only accessed as an easter egg "hidden cut" on the US T2 Ultimate Edition DVD has an extra scene added at the end of the film in which it basically seems to rule out the future war actually happening, because the scene is set after the date of the Future War holocaust predicted in both T1 and T2.

Off-site backups might make sense in the real world, but in a film sense it seems contrived. Just throw in more big trucks and stuff.

I must be confused
for a second I thought you were trying to make sense of this very feeble SF mumbo jumbo schmollywood crap
that can't be true, you guys have lives and better things to do, right? (scared voice) right?

It's a scene showing a future los angeles, it's paradise/utopia stuff, showing the older john conner (minus scar) pushing his daughter on a swing and the very much older Sarah conner, reflecting on the past/future, a typically bad hollywood ending.

The original 'Future is uncertain' ending is far superior, and obviously allows a sequel.

Well, their test audiences preferred the rolling road ending... and that's why T2 doesn't have the happy ending.

FunkyFingers

Yeah, I didn't like that "happy ever after ending" either, it seemed superfluous to the story really.

Perhaps they changed the future and now in T3 skynet just comes along a little later.

the site has a brief plot synopsis, but like Back to the Future, I don't think they're too concerned about paradoxes.

I prefered the Scoobydoo ending.

Sarah Connor be dead in T3. For some reason the Terminator has to steal her coffin.

I've seen that ending. How?

You opened your eyes and watched it? The light from the tv screen hit the cones and rods in the back of your eyes, creating nerve impules up your optic nerves firing in to your visual cortex in your brain which created an interpreted image in your head of what was in front of you?

I thought you said it was only on the US DVD special edition or some such.

FunkyFingers

It's on the UK one as well (I think I have the uk one).

FunkyFingers
17-12-2002, 16:57:39
It's not, at least not as part of the film. On the US version there are 3 cuts of the film and that extra ending is in only the 3rd, hidden cut of the film. The UK version didn't have this hidden 3rd cut, but it might have the scene as a deleted scene "bonus"?

My version of T2 is the limited edition "Metal Case" version. It's also from the limited run DVD-18 edition , so it's a Limited, Limited Ulitmate Special Edition!

They don't seem to do DVD-18 discs these days as they can make a marketing gambit of "2-Disc Special Edition" and print nice pretty disc art on the facing side, rather than the nice double-sided, dual layer DVD-18 discs.

They just showed some pretty fucking cool footage on Extra just now. Maybe this movie won't suck.

Nah...it'll suck.

They actually broadcast the sucky nice-nice ending on Channel 10 in Australia some years back, IIRC. The whole Director's Cut, actually.

Nav
20-12-2002, 10:32:32
The directors cut doesnt have that scene at the end.

FunkyFingers
20-12-2002, 10:34:42
You need the Extended Directors Cut.

Nav
20-12-2002, 10:36:49
Isnt that what comes on the DVD?

FunkyFingers
14-01-2003, 18:57:05
own goal?

2 versions of T2:Ultimate DVD edition

US version (region 1) has 3 cuts of the film - theatrical, directors cut, extended directors cut. Extended directors cut is a "hidden bonus feature" which you can unlock by typing in the date of future war in on the movie select screen. The extended directors cut adds, IIRC another 2 scenes not in the normal directors cut. IIRC they are the T-1000 searching John Connors room and the happy playground ending.

Rest of world version has only 2 cuts of the film - theatrical and directors cut.

Stoopid really, but there you go.

Funkodrom
