i hope you have a decent pc - when there are literally hundreds of monsters on screen it starts to get pretty hectic(!). My PII 350 chugged even with a geforce 2mx.

FunkyFingers

I have a PII 350 with a GF2MX also. Chug-a-rama here we go :nervous:

it was fine for most of the time but there are a couple of set pieces with loads and loads of baddies that really test the hardware.

Great game though - 'It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye':D

Funkodrom
09-01-2002, 10:48:58
You do get hundreds of baddies at certain bits. It's great. You just have to hold down the trigger and hope your ammo doesn't all run out. :D

FunkyFingers
09-01-2002, 13:30:48
back to the Doom 2 technique of filling an entire room with Imps to completely drain your chaingun ammo then, just as you think you've emptied the room, wait, what's that - it's one of those giant horned beasts, argh <run away in blind panic> ?? Excellent, can't wait :D

I'll install it tonight when I get back from my salsa dance class :clueless:

Funkodrom
09-01-2002, 13:51:24
More like fill an entire open area the size of Texas with a mixture of 30ft high monsters then when you kill them all some more ammo and health appears and the screen fills with a more numerous mixture of even bigger monsters.

FunkyFingers
09-01-2002, 15:14:30
Cool! I'll just have to go and do a salsa dance lesson first before I can unleash the destruction...

Funkodrom
09-01-2002, 15:39:41
You think that'll help with the dodging? ;)

FunkyFingers
09-01-2002, 16:35:07
quite right. I'm sure there's a dance equivalent of circle-strafeing

Funkodrom
09-01-2002, 16:36:29
You need to map a key to "Salsa"

FunkyFingers

Quality  :D  :p ;)

Funkodrom
09-01-2002, 16:40:10
Unfortunately that just uses the rocket launcher to turn bad guys into salsa. :D

FunkyFingers
11-01-2002, 09:39:24
Aah, installed and it failed to work. "Please remove Debugger" error message.
Had to download the 1.05 patch to get it going.

Played it for 20 mins, not bad so far :shoot:

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 09:59:35
They let you get into it fairly gently. Where did you get to?

FunkyFingers
11-01-2002, 11:39:00
nowhere really, still in the first level. I started going "behind" as you suggested, I can see what looks like it might be some secret items, but then I just got annihilated by a horde of big things with rockets for arms, and then a load of flying things, not enough firepower :shoot:

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 11:57:35
At the start of the first level go behind you, down the ramp and turn right 180 degrees when you get to the bottom there is a door in front of you with a load of guys in with big heads, it's all the buddies of Croteam.

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 11:59:12
Shoot the rockets as they come out of the guys launchers or when they are near other bad guys to kill them. Also they don't turn very quickly so you can circle strafe and shoot them in the knees from quite close with the double shotgun.

FunkyFingers
11-01-2002, 12:06:00
don't have a double shotgun yet...
Thanks for the "shoot the rockets" tip though:shoot: :smoke:

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 12:10:52
Ah... no, just remembered where you get the double shotgun.

The bad guys are great aren't they.

FunkyFingers
11-01-2002, 12:17:01
The one that drops out of the ceiling with a big gobby mouth and one eye made me jump out of my skin when it appeared!

Stupid question - is pistol ammo unlimited? NAHN

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 12:34:25
Yep, pistol ammo is unlimited, and actually pretty good when you have both pistols, fast firing and accurate at long range, you just have to hide when you reload.

FunkyFingers
11-01-2002, 12:51:57
I've got the double pistols, heh heh heh...

Funkodrom
11-01-2002, 13:39:50

FunkyFingers
13-01-2002, 12:03:40
Aargh, too many monsters! I simply can't play this game for more than 20 mins or so at any one time, there's just too much shooting to do!
Getting the double barrel shotgun was somewhat traumatic for a start, bloody hell!

I seem to be missing the absoloute majority of the secret areas though, bum.

It's such a sweet premise isn't it? Double shotgun bit was pretty solid, I was stuck there for a while. They just keep on coming don't they?

Funkodrom
14-01-2002, 09:28:11
Oh and secrets are often areas that you can get to by jumping or balancing to get to, you can normally see them but might take you a couple of mins to work out how to get to them.

FunkyFingers
14-01-2002, 10:06:12
it's so back to the good old days of Doom2 - shoot, shoot, shoot some more. Space the walls to find a secret, get a bigger gun, go in to the next room, get scared shitless, shoot a lot, shoot even more, run around in blind panic, shoot again!

The sound effects are great too, that sort of horse running noise gives me the creeps, and the kamakasi bomber guys, ha!

It runs really really really well on my machine, I'm really pleased.

Funkodrom
21-01-2002, 10:41:55
Excellent. It's a great game. Guaranteed Fun. :D

FunkyFingers
11-02-2002, 12:51:04
Aah, this game kicks ASS! Picked up the minigun in some secret cave, wow!
The 1st end of section boss was a bit of a nightmare, even with the minigun and rocket launcher, then, when you think you're done, you get stuck in another corridor with even more bad guys comin at ya, quality!
Pressed on, picked up the grenade launcher and the laser gun, which is cool, now I'm suffering from nervous shooting syndrome, I'm just firing off rockets at anything, even if it doesn't move - trees, what have you!
QUALITY GAME :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot:
:D :D

Funkodrom
11-02-2002, 12:52:30
You got the chaingun a lot earlier than me, I must have missed that secret.

FunkyFingers
11-02-2002, 16:06:07
In the circular room with the grenade launcher, where the red rocket firing bastard appears - if you shoot down the large statue at the back of the room and then walk up to the pedestal, a large green jump pad appears, which catapaults you back up across the room on to a ledge above the door where you first came in. In there was the chain gun, which helped a LOT with the end of level boss and all those hundreds and hundreds of those nasty jumpty green slimey things, urgh!

Funkodrom
11-02-2002, 16:10:17
I don't remember that room.

The green things room was great fun. :D

FunkyFingers
11-02-2002, 17:42:16
It's part of that scenario just before you enter the 1st boss level. You come in to a big round room where the grenade launcher is floating in the middle. There are exits to left and right at the far end. Big statue at the back, immediately opposite you. Health to your left and right. As soon as the Big Red Rocket Droid spawns, you also get the Skeleton Runner type beasts entering from left and right rear exits. Nightmare.
Once cleared, the left passage leads to a small room where jumpy green bitey things spawn from above, and the right passage leads you, via a scorpion or two and some rear entry skeletons, to the end of level scenario.

All in all, a tough few minutes, but the minigun was a huge reward!

Funkodrom
11-02-2002, 21:46:24
Hmmmm... the first boss being that big green dude on the platform where you get the rocket launcher?

When you say the red rocket firing dude. You mean one of the red rocket firing robotic walkers? Later on in the game you get loads of them onscreen at a time.

FunkyFingers
12-02-2002, 10:27:28
The first boss I categorise as the long room where you first get the Serious Kit - then about 300 green hoppy slimey things all try to jump on you at once - I say it's a "Boss level" because there's like an enemy health bar at the top of the screen that goes down eveytime you vanquish some of the green hoppy swines.

Funkodrom
12-02-2002, 10:34:54
Ah right. OK. I don't remember the round room but I know what you mean.

I think that's my favourite bit of the game... that and when you are coming up to the city over the plains later.

FunkyFingers
12-02-2002, 11:34:56
Approaching the city across the dunes was a superb sequence, loved the wide open spaces. Managed to find a lot of the secrets in that section too, which was nice.

Anyone got SS:TSE yet?

Funkodrom
12-02-2002, 11:45:43
I've hardly found any secrets anywhere.

Fistandantilus
12-02-2002, 11:54:42
Boooo. You're such a wuss.
I bet Shaker discovered them all.

Funkodrom
12-02-2002, 11:59:25
I don't really look for them. I just charge through the level shooting everything I see.

FunkyFingers
12-02-2002, 12:30:48
Trouble is, on the later levels, the secrets you do discover just cause more and more bad guys to spawn, so they don't actually help! In the City, there was a secret that really screwed me up "Secret Trap discovered!" it gleefully said. Got trapped in to a small room with 4 of those laser firing robots, one at each corner. Nice.
Then, got out of that, discover a "secret whistle" or something similar, and loads of more nasties spawn.
Just had to cut them down with my minigun :D

FunkyFingers
14-02-2002, 14:48:45
Damn, this game just got seriously difficult all of a sudden. I'm now well in to the city section and it's just a nightmare. Bad guys spawning from every direction, near and very long distance, low on health, armour and ammo for effective weapons. Nowhere to safely hide. Ack ack ack. Damn scorpions and green exploding slime lobbing type monsters, damn everything. This is now a real challenge. Ack.
