First band

Acoustic, sucked ass. And that's being kind. really shit.

Sonic Undermind

I was pleasantly surprised, especially with Carpet Burns, that came across musically just as well as the studio recording but with the energy of being live.

Protein's drumming was solid and I only noticed a mistake because Funko looked round and grinned at him. BV's came over really well too.

Funko's rhythm playing was nice and solid with only the one major fuck up.

Nill's let the side down to be honest, but only because his Jackson Kelly which he has been lovingly posting about, could have down with a bit of a polish, the finger prints showed up really well under those lights :D. Some very nice widdling was going down on that fingerboard.

Pete's singing went well and especially liked the wasy that most of the lyrics could be deciphered, apart from the phrases about virgins in Magic Helmet and wombs gushing in Zombie Wedding, choice moments for clarity.

Joseki (sp?)

EiF thought from the sound check they were quite EMO, I thought a little to hard and aggresive to be EMO. Very tight and visual band, the guitarist with the SG was maybe a little over the top but all quite fun really. I felt sorry for their vocal chords, but maybe that's because of my cough. Pretty good songs well perfomed.

Last band shit and boring. singer wanted to be Will Young it seems. Funniest moment was Nav dancing with the weird pissed bloke.

Good night all in all, even if I was stopped by the cops on the way home, cunts.

King Ghidra? :D

Major fuckup? That was all planned. :D

I think the lyrics you missed were "Beneath the moon, the virgin screams" and "The bride was blushing 'cause her wound was gushing"

Good to see no-one noticed that I got my hand stuck in my combats pocket on stage 'cause it was buttoned up and I couldn't get it out and had a guitar in my other hand so I had to get Sam to unbutton my pocket to free me.

We decided at lunchtime we need more songs about zombies. Possibly Mechanical Robo-Zombies.

Hand stuck in the pocket, I wonder why.

Funkodrom

I wish! The pocket's down by my knee.

I was fishing for a plectrum.

Rather than a compliment?

I didn't even need to fish for compliments that much last night. People kept spontaneously giving me them. I see why rock stars get arrogant and stuff.

About 10 minutes after coming off stage Rob asked if he could use my lighter. I held it out to him, but instead of taking it from my hand he just stood there expecting me to light his fag for him.

Tosser thought he was Mariah Carey and I was his personal muppet.

Sorry I couldn't get there fellas, as well as recovering and getting up later than I wanted, my plans for accommodation on the Saturday fell through and my fan belt snapped...so fate definitely didn't seem to be with me on this one...anyway...when is the next one?

Next best gig for everyone to come and see us from out of town is the 19th January at Bar Oz again. Much better venue than the Purple Turtle.

Slap rates us in the top 5 bands in the area. I think we'll have a few gigs with him soon.

Funkodrom
10-12-2002, 10:17:14
His top 5 goes up to 7 though. :D It's great that he's saying all that stuff on berkshirelive as well. It's almost like we have created a buzz...

Just got an e-mail from Lu as well saying how loads of people have been saying what a good night it was and that she's glad she already has us booked in again for January.

I will try and make the January one in that case...try and get things sorted out a bit better this time, but I have just had a lot of stuff on at the moment...interviews, FDA inspections at work, etc, etc...it should be quieter in January...

I told the rest of the band that I should polish my axe. They just laughed at me. Now I say fuck'em.

Funkodrom

You didn't tell me!

If you had said "I need to polish my axe" I would have laughed 'cause it sounds hillarious.

I had a conversation with you about it and we decided that we had to find some lint-free cloth. I didn't laugh.

How unfairly I treat you all

According to AMG the top five groups in Reading's history are Sneakerpimps, Luke Slater, The Beevers, Slowdive and ISAN.

It doesn't mention Archangel? For a while they were the UK's premier Christian Metal band.

Sonic Undermind even use some of their groundbreaking riffs.

That probably doesn't take very much doing.

Archangel?? I remember those boys. Didn't we almost go to see them play at Palmer Park church?

Funkodrom
11-12-2002, 14:01:09
Did they ever even have a gig?

protein
11-12-2002, 14:08:50
No. They recorded a number of really good songs though.

Who was the band at palmer park? You remember when you were in that god-rock band protein? You wanted to see these guys for markwet research. it was Archangel I'm sure

Other way round. Debaser and I were in the comedy band - Archangel

Magic helmet was originally an Archangel song.
The lyrics went:

Jesus is a saylor on the sea of love,
God is an astronaught in the sky above,
Jesus came to save us,
save us from our sins and stuff satanic demons in to wheely bins.

and so on...

Funkodrom

I thought Archangel was protein's christian metal band

So why doesn't it use the two classic riffs from the Archangel days?

Never mind Archangel! who were the real god-rockers who played in palmer park. Was it Nazareth

More than likely Stryper
