Thread for suggestions for CounterGlow game of the year.

1) this year you will be voting for your top 3 games

1st place 5pts
2nd place 3pts
3rd place 1pt

game with most points at the end of the voting period is the game of the year.

2) this is not the voting thread, this is the suggestion thread!!

the voting thread will for the week 16-21 dec i think...that should account for everyone's xmas holidays the next week.

If this isn't going to work out we can rejig it.

Anyway, suggestions for game of the year here!

Any format, any machine is acceptable, so get suggesting!

So we are suggesting games or other ideas. I suggest we run the voting for 2 weeks in January but the timing is not so critical.

Games : well AoM, Warcraft III, CMBB, PES2 are liely to be on some people's lists. Also, NWN, Morrowind and the Sims expansion packs. (Was CivIII this year?)

I think that's most of the big names...

not that I am suggesting CivIII of course...

06-12-2002, 10:16:57
I'm suggesting Civ3 for shitpile of the year

And of course there should be suggestiions for the Counterglow "Turkey of the Year":

Medieval Total War comes to mind (only on Venom's advice, though). Hearts of Iron is potentially another one.

06-12-2002, 10:19:16
not to piss off Venom, but I would nominate Total War Medieval (PC) for best and not turkey
then Fifa 2003, Halo and possibly Jedi Outcast II (all xbox) (xbox), NWN and CMBB on PC
havn't seen AoM yet

do we do it by platform or just for PC?

I think we decided that all would be thrown in together to avoid too much fracturing... (can't exactly remember though)

06-12-2002, 10:42:57
maybe MP/SP?

06-12-2002, 11:00:21
Games I've spent my time on this year:

Laser Squad Nemesis, Pro Evolution Soccer 2, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 (although that might have been released last year), Gitaroo Man, Warcraft III

The idea was that we'd put all games together but then the highest placed console game would be "Console game of the year" etc.

Don't think so. There would then end up overlap between the groups - too confusing. Seems a bit of an artificial distinction anyway.

06-12-2002, 11:02:49
Yeah, there aren't enough games anyway.

06-12-2002, 11:03:53
Definately LSN and guitaroo man and GTA3

06-12-2002, 11:35:09
PES2 on PS2
Virtua Fighter 4 on ps2

GTA III (only played the pc version)

if tony hawks 3 was this year then tony hawks 3 as well :)

oh and we can do january for the actual voting if that's popular, sounds like a good idea to me

06-12-2002, 11:36:36
Tony Hawks 3 / PS2 was released last year (November IIRC)

The year is not yet over...

06-12-2002, 14:48:30
PES2 on the Playstation 2
Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast on the Mac
And Vice City (PS2) I've not played it, but I know it has Michael Jackson and Blondie on the soundtrack.

06-12-2002, 15:23:22
things of the year always happen in december. we did it in december last year, it just makes sense.

06-12-2002, 15:50:35
Pick a Cube game, pick a Cube game…
Super Monkey Melee Sunshine Party 2003!

06-12-2002, 15:51:51
Since when did Counterglow have to copy everyone else?

06-12-2002, 16:45:17
I haven't bought a new game all year. lets see... I'm still playing the Sims, RA2 and SMAX.

Sad really.

Sounds like a good idea...

Funny, I've spent 1500 on games this year, and there aren't many that stand out to me...

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is fun, but it's more of 'Paid expansion marketed as a sequel' type game.

Taz Wanted has been fun so far... nice little platform game...

MoO3 won't be on the list... gonna slip into 2003, I think...

10-12-2002, 14:35:57
I spent a lot of time on the Mechwarrior4 expansions, Medal of Honor, Neverwinter Nights, Jedi Knight II, and I'm really beginning to enjoy Arx Fatalis (in between bouts of MW4: Mercenaries). Then there's Morrowind, too, of course.

I've also spent a lot of hours on Deus Ex, Moo2, Civ3, and DiabloII, but those aren't new.

I'm afraid to keep track of how much we spend on games in a year, Darkstar. Its more than we should, considering the time spent on games would be better spent getting done with school.

10-12-2002, 15:14:41
Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942 are definately on my list. I haven't decided on my 3rd yet.

10-12-2002, 15:45:02
Civ III!
Pebble Beach Golf!

10-12-2002, 18:39:35
Was Jedi Knight 2 this year?

If so thats my vote

Put me down for:

1: Jediknight2
2: GTA3
3: Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin

MDA, I just happen to be using some software to track my personal finances. I was rather surprised... 2002 really hasn't been a good year for games, overall.

Zoo Tycoon's Expansion, Marine Mania, is a very nice expansion for a game. More value added then Empire Earth's expansion, certainly. And better then Civ3's play the world... seeing as you cannot play the world. ;)

I thought I had my three wrapped up (GTA3, Jedi Knight2 and Battlefield).. but I got back into Mafia, and its developing into a superb game.

I have liked Morrowind

Warcraft 3

hmm, most the other ones I have been playing are at least a year old (Civ3 and Arcanum for example)

on PS2, I have played FFX, GT3-Aspec, and Wild Arms

(I know, I need to get more games)

Civ3 PTW might be cool, if it works (I have not tried the most recent patch)
