Just in case you haven\'t been reading our forums (how could you???), QuickSilver has announced that they are sliding back the shipping date for MoO3. This is due to them closing out a late game crashing MP bug. They say be happy they aren\'t like other companies that don\'t worry about such things and just want your money.

According to the official site \'The release date for MOO3 has been moved back to 12/4.\' Read more here (http://moo3.quicksilver.com/official/news111902.html)

So, they are saying that they DO worry about such things and just want your money?:)

from the IGN preview:

"the fact that you don't seem to be able to choose which weapons you use, or have much say over the cooler gadgets you install on your ships might be a weak point in the game's design. "

Shit!

Shit indeed. Perhaps this guy got something wrong? First time I hear of an issue like this...

Me too, but I don't keep up with the Moo forums as well as I did before the "reorganization"

On a side note, Stars: Supernova Genesis has been in beta for nearly two years and they still can't get the money to finish development. If they ever do finish it, it'll be DOA due to tech/glitz advances.

Darkstar

Stars: Supernnova Genesis's main issue wasn't money to finish the beta... it was money to run the servers. The last thing I saw from them was that they just needed someone to front the money for servers. They had beta'd the crap out of it, and it worked very well. But they were too small a company to have the large server farms they expected to need...

The original Stars *doesn't* have any graphics, so graphic level isn't really an issue. It's all a step up. ;)

One thing that worries me is that I havent been able to find any in-game ship battle screenshots.

there was at least one in the IGN preview - just a screen full of explosions, really.

IGN are bunch of faggots.

Explosions good. IGN fags.

Apparently IGN sucks more is greater a magnitude than explosions good for Venom.

'greater a magnitude' is still very weird grammar.

Than, not then.

And it was way better the way it was originally:).

It seems many games keep being pushed back. Look at Warlords4. I could have sworn it was originally supposed to be done like late LAST year.

Darkstar

Fine, Shining1. It is now restored to its original wording and punctuation. Better?

You just like 'explosions good for Venom'.

Darkstar

And remember people... as a fan/potentional customer of a *new* game, do not complain about a game being pushed back. It is better from our point of view for a game to be held and worked on, rather then rushed out.

Venom
02-12-2002, 13:09:06
I don't mind them keeping it to make it better. Just admit it's got some problems and tell everyone you're working on them. I'm fine with that. Better than releasing a shit product that requires 2 or 3 patches until it's finally playable.

Darkstar

Exactly!

Nothing makes me laugh more than buying a new game the day it comes out and already having a patch waiting for me when I get home except midgets on fire.

But you'll never build a community that way.

Venom

No bugs=no community because no one wants to talk about a game that isn't broken.

moomin

Well, missing the x-mas sale binge will probably cost us any future expansion set - no matter how good the game is, it won't sell as well post-season. I'm a bit sad 'bout that, even if I appreciatre their effort not to ship a unplayable piece of shit like PTW.

MDA

They've dumped Dec 4 for "Gold announcement pending" on the official forums, but not the home page on the official website.

No rush for me, I have 3 other games sucking at my free time at the moment, its just that none of them are strategy games.

Hell, I *expect* that if I buy a game on the day it is released, to have a patch waiting on the company site to be downloaded.

What makes me laugh now is when the patch is available before the game.

Darkstar

Moomin... the game includes MP. Exactly what do you expect for an expansion? Neither MoO 1 or 2 did not have an expansion... because the format doesn't lend itself to expansions.

It just doesn't *need* mods. Unlike Civ.

And what would a mod be? Star Wars? Battlestar Galactica? VGA Planets? Think about it.

MDA
04-12-2002, 01:11:01
You could throw in a few new techs and races on an expansion, or increase the resolution to something nicer. Races are already supposed to be customizable (graphically, that's more difficult), and the artwork they'd need for a better res might be a bit expensive (I have no idea).

No, I didn't read any of the above lurking at Poly, I resent the implication. (I'm busted, aren't I?)

Not to mention there's been some talk about how QS would just love to add some of the feature that got cut for this release.

Interesting. I thought you'd at least be able to make direct design decisions. I sure don't want the comp to fit my ships with wimpy guns before I send them out to fight.

Darkstar
05-12-2002, 04:52:46
Humm... you mean like in MoO2 where if you don't have tactical combat on, it does? Or was that MoO1? Been too long, apparently...

Deacon
05-12-2002, 07:24:24
Moo2 has customizable ships. I believe you can only let the AI do your fighting when tactical is turned off. I think SE4 might have a ship design AI, but I never use it because the enemy ships created by the enemy AI are usually too simple. Max engines, max weapons, light armor and shields, and some extra supplies for longer range. Sometimes ECM. My own ships use every trick that research can come up with.

After reading the beta testers comments on the official forums, I'm convinced that either the reveiwer had his head up his ass, or was given a really early beta without ship design implemented.

As deacon said maybe there's a tactical combat option in 3 like 2, the reviewer might not have turned it on...

Even if it is, it'll take time to get it shipped unless it'll be on store shelves on the 19th.
