could be old or new.
I spent a lot of time on audiogalaxy looking up bands and spent very little time listening to the radio.
Bands I never really listened to until 2001:
NOFX
Lagwagon
Millencolin
No Use for a Name
New Found Glory
mxpx

see a pattern here?

also:
Chronos Quartet
Alien Ant Farm
Lard

Some good stuff there... New Found Glory were a 2000 discovery for me. Shame about Alien Ant Farm though...

Personally...

Jimmy Eat World

A band I really ought to have started listening to in 1999.

Jimmy Eat World, System of a Down, Hundred Reasons.

Anything/Everything, really. I only seriously started litsening to and apreciating music this year- although I litsened to a wide variety of stuff before, this year was when I left the casual fan stage and became insane. Bwahahahaha. Cuckoo! :clueless:

Backworld, AC Acoustics and Autechre. If anyone comes up with a more eclectic mix I'll be suitably impressed.

Oh and Emperor. Never really liked their stuff before, not a black metal fan, but their new album Prometheus is brilliant. One of those genre trancending albums.

Can't think that anyone else here would like it, except maybe King_Ghidra, but I thought it was great.

Everclear and Rammstein. Everclear's radio stuff made me vomit, but their albums are actually very well crafted (it helped that I found a pile of them in a bargain bin for about a dollar each). I had just ignored Rammstein on principal, but heard Links234 while in Switzerland and it grew on me. Have yet to buy an album by them yet, though.

What principle did you ignore Rammstein on?

"Everybody likes them, therefore they must be crap."

I never said it was a good principle.

There was also the "I've got no disposable income, so I'm ignoring all music in order to not feel so bad that I can't buy albums" principle, too, but it was mainly the first one.

Ah. I get you.

My 2001 discoveries were:-

Ludovico Einaudi
Diana Krall

Both been around awhile but passed my attention until recently(not "bands" either but hey that's me... I'm just a rebel who ignores the rules defined by society... or something...)

Iowaska, Nurse with Wound, King Missile and Pitchshifter (I'd heard them when they came out and wasn't that impressed, but I've since dicovered their later body of work)

Nurse with Wound? If you've taken the plunge into Current 93 and Coil as well I'll be most impressed.

I've a fair bit of Coil stuff, and I've a track with Nurse with wound and Coil together.
