Let's take a theme and see how many (preferably not totally worthless) songs we can find about it. Not country, electronica (as if they had any lyrics) or pop songs please.

I'll start with an easy one.

"That woman got me drinking" by Mc"something" and the Popes.

"Whiskey in the jar" by ??? (not metallica first certaintly)

"Going Nowhere" by Therapy?

Whisky In The Jar is by Thin Lizzy.

What about:-

Nighttrain - Guns 'n' Roses
Lilac Wine - er... not Jeff Buckley...... Stevie Nicks maybe???

Thin Lizzy, yes.

Show me the way to the next whiskey bar oh don't ask why... The Doors.

It's corny but once you're doors infected it doesn't sound like it.

There must be tons of good songs about drinking... I just can't recall any more right now.

I used to be a massive Doors fan. I still know the words to almost all their songs. I always hated that one though. It's just rubbish isn't it.

Roadhouse Blues is probably about drinking.

It's the same with me. I was a Doors fan, I still like to listen to their songs, if in the right mood, and know most of the lyrics.

Roadhouse Blues might be "better" but I like the ultimate fatalistic feeling of that other song. Quite comforting.

Tony Tribe made a decent cover of Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine". Er. Um... God I don't know enough Alcohol songs.

Isn't Hotel California supposed to be about a rehab clinic to the rich and famous? I suppose that's alcohol related.

Apparently, Tightrope Walker by Therapy? is also about alcohol/alcoholism, but in a rather metaphorical way.

Actually the guy who later did the Pina Colada song did some far-out stuff in the seventies.
